The General Department of Taxation directly administers taxes on overseas suppliers and is responsible for granting tax identification numbers to overseas suppliers in accordance with Vietnamese regulations. The Vietnamese Minister of Finance has issued Circular 80/2021/TT-BTC guiding the Law on Tax Administration and Decree 126/2020/ND-CP. According to Circular 80, platforms such as Facebook, Google and YouTube, although not having a fixed business establishment in Vietnam, operating via e-commerce methods in Vietnam will have to register for tax declaration at tax administration agencies of Vietnam. In a "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" episode Monday, Oliver, whose show helped make a Vietnamese public announcement song on Covid-19 go viral last year, highlighted how misinformation is spreading among the immigrant diaspora in the U.S., and more worryingly, how there has been little content monitoring efforts to fight misinformation in languages other than English. "Sometimes the spread of misinformation is exacerbated by the fact that for many diaspora communities here in the U.S., there just aren't many alternatives in their own languages. "For many older Vietnamese-Americans, there is such a vacuum of credible news channels that broadcast in Vietnamese. Despite this, over the last decade Thu Phuong has become known as one of the leading xam artists, spreading the traditional folk art to a wider audience in Vietnam and around the world.
