The Hanoitimes - Vietnam`s motorcycle market may reach its saturation point, a view point shared by both Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) and Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT). VAMM announced the accumulated sales volume from its members for the first six months of 2018 was 1.587 million units, up 0.04% or 60,000 units from the same period last year. Illustration photo. VAMM currently has five members namely, Honda Vietnam, Piaggio Vietnam, Vietnam Suzuki Corporation, SYM Vietnam Company and Yamaha Motor Vietnam. The remaining sales volume of around 200,000 units came from other brands such as Ducati, BMW Motorrad, Kymco, Kawasaki or Harley Davidson. A motor on display at the Vietnam Motorcycle Show 2017 (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The motorbike market of Vietnam has recorded positive growth in recent years, despite being forecast to enter a saturation period by the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) two years ago. Five VAMM members – namely Piaggio Vietnam, Suzuki Vietnam, SYM Vietnam, Yamaha Motor Vietnam, and Honda Vietnam – have reported sales this year higher than those of the previous year. The total number of motorbikes sold by these companies rose from over 2.8 million in 2015 to over 3.1 million in 2016, and to nearly 3.3 million in 2017. The exhibition, the second edition, is being held against a backdrop of numerous challenges facing domestic manufacturers and importers. A wide range of models, starting from commercial and sport bikes to motors, were showcased at the exhibition. A number of activities were also held during the event, including driving games and a freestyle motocross performance by Japanese athletes, funded by Yamaha. The event also gathered 55 trademarks of support industries and spare part providers as well as relevant industries, including foreign brands including Motul, Michelin, Caltex, Total, Nissin and Quik Fix. Two-wheel major Yamaha Motor Viet Nam is recalling 888 Yamaha YZF-R3s, a supersport motorcycle manufactured by Yamaha since 2015. The company will check and replace the fuel tank bracket and main switch sub-assembly upon finding the defect in the vehicle. According to the Vietnam Competition Authority, the recall campaign is applicable for sports bikes in the Vietnamese market which were manufactured from June 4, 2015 to October 31, 2016. Check, repair and replacement of the vehicles will be conducted at all Yamaha agents nationwide. Relevant costs will be paid by Yamaha. The campaign, which began on February 23 and ends on August 23, is being carried out after customers complained of a petrol trace leaking from under the motorcycle’s fuel tank.
