Government urged to complete Ho Chi Minh Road project by 2025
A section of Ho Chi Minh Road in Binh Phuoc province (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – About 86.1 percent of the Ho Chi Minh Road project has been completed, and the Government is working on the remaining sections so as to finish the entire project by 2025, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The said on May 24. Reporting on the project implementation to the National Assembly (NA), he said under a resolution of the NA, this project, stretching 2,744km in total from Pac Bo in northern Cao Bang province to Dat Mui in the southernmost province of Ca Mau, should have had at least two lanes and been completed by 2020. So far, 2,362km of the road, equivalent to 86.1 percent, along with about 258km of access roads, has been completed. Extension for Resolution No.42/2017/QH14 on bad debt handling proposed
Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong Accumulating from August 15, 2017 to December 31, 2021 all CIs settled VND380,200 billion ($16.4 billion), less than a half of the expected amount. If Resolution No.42 expires, the sum of unsettled bad debts identified by that Resolution (including newly arisen one) will reach VND430,000 billion ($18.5 billion) and VND443,000 billion ($19.1 billion) at the end of 2022 and 2023, respectively. After a large amount of bad debts in 2018 and 2019 had been successfully handled, this speed slowed down considerably, especially that in the form of customer self-payment, due to negative influences of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the Government, when Resolution No.42 expires on August 15, 2022, the bad debt settlement mechanism of CIs comes back to observe normal legal regulations, which might lead to unwanted prolonging of bad debt handling among CIs, particularly weak ones. Building new–style rural areas improves people’s lives in Mekong Delta
A rural road in Tân Hiệp District’s Thạnh Đông Commune, Kiên Giang Province. – VNA/VNS Photo Lê Huy Hải HCM CITY – Developing new-style rural areas has improved infrastructure and the lives of people in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta. On average, the delta’s communes met 16.9 of the 19 criteria set under the national programme to build new-style rural areas at the end of last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The criteria cover infrastructure, transport, irrigation, electricity, the environment, income, education, healthcare, social security, and culture. Also at the end of last year the delta had 70 per cent of its communes meeting all criteria, the ministry said. In Cần Thơ City and Bạc Liêu Province, all are new-style rural communes. Paintings bring ancient Vietnamese architecture to life

HÀ NỘI — Oil paintings featuring unique ancient Vietnamese architecture from across the nation are being exhibited at Văn Miếu–Quốc Tử Giám (Temple of Literature Complex). The exhibition, entitled Kỳ Ẩn Việt Nam (Mysterious Việt Nam), has been organised by the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies in collaboration with the Văn Miếu–Quốc Tử Giám Culture and Science Centre. It is also the first art exhibition to ever be held within the special national relic. It introduces to the public the first 20 artworks of 27-year-old HCMC-based painter Nguyễn Thanh Vũ. The oil paintings of different sizes depict many famous heritages and landscapes from the north to the south of the country, such as Lũng Cú Flag Pole, St Joseph's Cathedral, Báo Thiên Tower and the Notre Dame Cathedral in HCM City.
