On Monday, more than 55 chefs divided into 11 teams participated in an event to process hundreds of coconut-based delicacies in Ben Tre to set a world record in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Vietnamese cultural celebrity Nguyen Dinh Chieu (1822-1888), whose hometown was Ben Tre. The delicacies are made from different parts of the coconut tree, including coconut palm heart, shredded coconut, desiccated coconut, coconut milk, coconut water and sprouted coconut. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi, vice chairwoman of Ben Tre, said this was a great pride of Ben Tre people and the world record helps to promote its culture and tourism image to international visitors. Cao Ngọc Hùng finished second in the men's F57 javelin throw event. The Paralympian took his best result of 44.06m after six attempts. He was behind Muhammet Khalvandi of the hosts Tunisia, who threw 51.33m. Youssoupha Diouf of Senegal was in third with a 41.64m throw. Vietnamese ceramic artist sets two Guinness World Records

The ceramic works, created by Vietnamese artisan Nguyễn Hùng and Hương Việt Ceramic Company, include a sculpture of a toad and a carved and embossed ceramic plate. They have been recognised as the largest ceramic sculpture of a mythical creature and the largest carved ceramic plates, respectively. The sculpture of the toad, measuring 173.5cm in length, 110cm in width and 77.8cm in height, was made of clay and a unique enamel. The An Giang province-born athlete grabbed five world championship gold medals in 2001, 2009, 2010, 2014 and 2017. He also triumphed in the continental competition eight times, taking seven titles in a row from 2004 to 2012, and another in 2014. Laos considers curbing imports to save foreign currency
At a food fair in Vientiane, Laos (Photo: Xinhua/VNA) Vientiane (VNA) – The Lao Government is considering imposing limits on a number of imported goods in an attempt to minimize or cut the use of foreign currency on non-essential items amid dwindling foreign currency reserves, Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh said. Responding to National Assembly deputies’ questions at the third session of the 9th legislature, the PM said vehicles, alcoholic beverages and other imported luxury items are among goods to be considered for the import curb. Laos is suffering from a shortage of foreign currency, so the government is struggling to purchase and import sufficient essential items, notably fuel. Meanwhile, the Vientiane Times reported that the Lao Government is considering engaging an international consulting firm to determine the value of state assets, particularly those pertaining to natural resources.
