Dao Thi Tam and Doan Van Dien got four children together. Unfortunately, one of their children drowned when he was three. In 2012, Dien was diagnosed with liver cancer and died at 37 years old. Their other child also died a few months later because of brain cancer when he was in 11th grade. Tran Trung Tang, head of the Village 9 said when Dien was still alive, he often said that he was the happiest man yet instances of bad luck occurred one after another.
