The speech, themed “Sincerity, trust and responsibility for a better world,” focused on how Vietnam sees the world today, the role of sincerity, trust and responsibility in a turbulent world, and what the country needs to do in order to demonstrate sincerity, and bolster trust and responsibility, for a better world. It underlined Vietnam’s willingness to cooperate with the international community to deal with issues that all countries, small or large, rich or poor, have to settle together, while affirming in a world full of turbulence, strategic competition and a great many choices, Vietnam picks no side. “Instead it chooses justice, fairness and goodness, based on the principles of international law and the U.N. HCMC revives polluted canal with $86.2-million project
In 2000, the canal that flows two kilometers through Districts 5 and 6 was filled up following heavy pollution and serious encroachment. By then, the canal spread only two kilometers wide with blackish and stinky water. To continue its drainage function, a concrete box culvert was installed. Fifteen years later, the city decided to recover the canal with a three-phase project that cost VND2 trillion ($86.2 million) to build a drainage system and relocate affected households. The project was to complete in 2020 but got delayed. In 2020, a section 200 meters long and 14-16 meters wide in District 6 was revived, with the two banks turned into a park. At a section meeting Lo Gom Canal in District 6, work has been deployed to establish a water pumping station. To revive the canal, more than 24,000 cubic meters of soil and rock has been dug up. Nation lacking coal supply for sufficient power generation
Flexibility is required in handling raw material issues for power plants and easing coal supply pressures, Photo: Shutterstock Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant under Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has been in a coal shortage since the beginning of 2022. Ta Trung Kien, director of the plant, said that the volume of coal delivered “has been reduced significantly” compared to the signed contract. Vinacomin Group and Dong Bac Corporation – two of the coal suppliers for the Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant – delivered only just over 74 per cent of the monthly plan. “The two units of our plant need about 6,400 tonnes of coal per day. Due to a lack of coal, the plant was forced to use backup coal to maintain the operation. By the end of the first quarter, these reserves were at just about 14,000 tonnes, much lower than the required norm of 80,000 tonnes,” Kien said. Many other plants are facing similar problems, including Nghi Son 1, Vung Ang 1, Vinh Tan 2, and Duyen Hai 1, which currently … [Read more...] about Nation lacking coal supply for sufficient power generation

Parking service operators, street vendors encroach on sidewalks near hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City
The sidewalks encircling several hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have been turned into parking lots for motorbikes and trading areas for street vendors, leaving little to no space for pedestrians. Although the municipal Department of Transport requested that the People’s Committees of Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, and 11, where many large hospitals are located, crack down on the sidewalk encroachment, the issue has remained rampant as of Wednesday. Some sidewalk occupiers even put up barriers to stop pedestrians from walking through their parking lots, which can be seen on the sidewalks of Nguyen Chi Thanh and Thuan Kieu Streets near Cho Ray Hospital and along Ly Thuong Kiet Street near Hung Vuong Hospital, both in District 5. As a result, pedestrians are forced to walk on the roadway, endangering themselves and others. “There is no footpath because the sidewalks are full of motorbikes so I have to go on the roadway,” said Nguyen Tan Vinh, a resident of District 5.
