Hanoi kicked off its large-scale decontamination mission on Monday morning in a bid to stall the spread of COVID-19. Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung had requested local military forces to carry out the disinfection during a virtual meeting on Sunday. Following Dung’s order, relevant units under the Ministry of National Defense and the Hanoi Capital High Command arranged 180 soldiers and 15 specialized vehicles for the fumigation drive on Monday, with Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, Hoang Mai, and Chuong My Districts being the first target locations. From 8:00 am the same day, the specialized vehicles began touring many streets in Hoan Kiem District to spray disinfectant. Such adjustment has been made after the municipal administration banned residents from going outdoors from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am the next day, from Monday until further notice, as part of the measures to reduce surging COVID-19 infections.
