March 9, 2021 by hanoitimes.vn

The Hanoitimes – South Korean experts will help operate the Vietnam’s largest trade center, which is expected to serve as a bridge to connect trade, cultural and tourism activities between the two countries.

The World Trade Center Binh Duong New City, the largest of its kind in Vietnam, is scheduled for opening in the southern province of Binh Duong this month.

The center will be operated by the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and Coex Convention & Exhibition Center (COEX), according to an agreement signed with Vietnam’s real estate and infrastructure developer Becamex IDC on March 8.

The center located in a total area of 22,000 square meters, including 11,679 square meters of indoor exhibition space and 7,935 square meters of outdoor exhibition. It is expected to serve as a bridge to connect trade, cultural and tourism activities between Vietnam and South Korea.

Under the agreement, COEX will send its experts in exhibition organization and infrastructure management to Vietnam to operate the center.

As Vietnam’s largest industrial hub with 800 South Korean companies, Binh Duong province is part of Vietnam’s southern key economic zone and 25 kilometers away from Ho Chi Minh City’s downtown areas.

A COEX representative expected the center to play a key role in facilitating cooperation between South Korean companies and their international peers under South Korean government’s “New Southern Policy”.

Covid-19 vaccinations begin in Vietnam

March 8, 2021 by vietnamnet.vn

On the morning of March 8, the first Vietnamese were injected with Covid-19 vaccine at four places:

The Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases in HCM City, the Health Center of Hai Duong Province and Kim Thanh District Medical Center in Hai Duong.

The vaccination started at 8am. Nearly 300 health workers who directly treat Covid-19 patients were the first who were vaccinated.

Three Deputy Ministers of Health – Mr. Tran Van Thuan, Mr. Nguyen Truong Son and Mr. Do Xuan Tuyen – were present at the vaccination sites for monitoring.

Each person received 1 dose of 0.5 ml. The second dose will be injected in 3 months. The person had to stay at the vaccination site for 30 minutes and monitored at home for the first 24 hours.

Vietnam has received 117,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. The Ministry of Health delivered 71,000 doses to the Centers for Disease Control in 13 Covid-19-hit provinces and cities, 30,000 doses to the Ministry of Defense, and 5,200 doses to 21 medical facilities treating Covid-19 patients.

This year, Vietnam plans to inject at least 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, the largest immunization campaign in the country ever.

This morning, the first 151 people were vaccinated in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Duong. In the afternoon, 130 people were vaccinated in Hanoi and HCM City.

Ms. Rana Flower, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)’s representative in Vietnam, said the agency had contacted 10 international airlines to transport vaccines for free to 92 poor and low-income countries participating in the COVAX Facility alliance. Vietnam is one of the member countries of COVAX. When Vietnam meets the requirements, COVAX will deliver 1.2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in March and 2.8 million doses in April.

Dr. Kidong Park, Chief Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Vietnam, said that AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine used in Vietnam was licensed and manufactured in Korea.

This vaccine has undergone a very rigorous research and testing process, ensuring safety, and approved by WHO for use in an emergency epidemic situation. This is the biggest vaccination campaign in human history.

Worldwide, Covid-19 vaccine is in short supply, said Dr. Park, although all countries want their people to be vaccinated, but the number of vaccines is still very limited.

In the context of limited vaccines, WHO very much welcomes the Vietnamese government’s direction of giving priority vaccination to priority groups based on risk assessment, said Park.

The WHO representative also emphasized that, although the vaccine has been tested to meet safe vaccination, this is the first time the world has produced a vaccine in just one year. He emphasized the need to have follow-up after 48 hours of vaccination as well as follow-up at home.

In Hai Duong, 80 people in the high-risk group were vaccinated first, including 50 people at the Hai Duong City Medical Center and 30 people at Kim Thanh District Health Center.

Ho Chi Minh City started to vaccinate at 9:30am. Doctor Du Le Thanh Xuan, from the Rehabilitation Ward of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases of Ho Chi Minh City was the first to be vaccinated.

In Hanoi, Mr. Truong Van Truong, a staff of the Emergency Ward was one of the first who were vaccinated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Dr. Pham Thi Nguyet Quyen, from the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, was the second person to be vaccinated this morning.

In Hanoi, at 7:50 a.m., Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan was present at the vaccination site of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Dr. Vu Minh Dien, Deputy Director of the Center for Disease Control and Vaccination of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, said that in the first phase of vaccination, 420 medical workers of his hospital will receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

On March 8, the first 100 medical staff of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases were vaccinated. The remaining 320 staff members will be vaccinated tomorrow.

Dual task of Vietnamese sport

March 7, 2021 by en.nhandan.org.vn

>>> V.League 1-2021 to restart in mid-March

>>> Vietnamese athletics eye reign defence at SEA Games 31

>>> Two Vietnamese match officials shortlisted to officiate at 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Explaining the reason for proffering the honour, football’s world governing body said Vietnam successfully organised the national women’s tournaments in 2020 thanks to its effective control of the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling referees and assistant referees to maintain their professional activities and form as well as to improve their capabilities.

Those objective assessments have contributed to affirming the prestige of Vietnamese sports as a whole in terms of not only women’s football but also other events, in the context that the country is well implementing pandemic prevention and control measures to bring society back to normality. Last year, Vietnam’s sport sector successfully organised 148 national competitions, especially the V.League 1-2020 national football championship with stadiums full of spectators, producing great surprise and winning admiration from international friends. In addition, Vietnam sent many teams to compete in 18 international tournaments, earning a haul of medals and five official berths at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. Vietnam maintained a stable training programme for national teams in all sports at the national sport training centre, while opening 16 referee and coach training classes, thus enabling referees, trainers, and athletes to continue improving and honing their professional skills. The aforementioned achievements are prideworthy as many international competitions and also national tournaments in other countries, even developed ones, were either cancelled or suspended for a long time, even for the whole year, significantly affecting the training, competition and professional qualifications of coaches and athletes.

International friends have recognised and highly appreciated Vietnam’s COVID-19 prevention and control efforts, and are placing their trust in the country to host many international and regional sporting events this year. Specifically, Vietnam plans to host about 175 domestic and international tournaments in 2021, particularly the 31 st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) and the 11 th ASEAN Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 11). Vietnam’s efforts to prepare for the hosting of these two competitions in the context of multiple difficulties have demonstrated its sense of responsibility in uniting the ASEAN Community for the sustainable development of regional sports as well as its confidence in the good control of the pandemic and effective plans to successfully organise the Games.

To date, despite the complicated development of COVID-19, with timely prevention and control measures, Vietnam has put the disease under control, thereby step by step bringing socio-economic activities back to normal in the new situation, both combating the pandemic and maintaining socio-economic development. That is also the dual task of the nation’s sport sector in 2021. Shortly after the Lunar New Year holiday, 17 national teams with 300 athletes have returned to training at the National Sports Training Centre in preparation for upcoming international competitions. V.League 1-2021 and the National First Division Tournament (V.League 2) will officially restart from March 13 and 19, respectively, with the strict observation of pandemic prevention and control regulations. In addition, the 62 nd Tien Phong Newspaper Marathon will be held this month in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai with the participation of more than 5,000 runners from 50 delegations. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is planning to launch the “All people take exercise following Uncle Ho’s example” campaign for the 2021-2030 period and the Olympic Run Day for Public Health 2021 throughout the country if conditions allow.

Although the pandemic has been well controlled, there is no room for self-satisfaction and negligence, and top priority must be given to ensuring the safety of athletes and fans as sport activities are resumed. The experiences in pandemic prevention and control and sports management in 2020 should be promoted in a more drastic and thorough manner and maintained towards ensuring COVID-19 fight in parallel with the work of training, practising, and organising competitions. The General Department of Sports and Physical Training needs to regularly inspect and monitor units, tournament organisers and localities, while closely following the instructions of the health sector and the Government to prevent violations of regulations. In addition, members of the reconvening national teams must receive careful COVID-19 testing, perform medical declarations, and seriously implement pandemic prevention and control measures. It is the responsibility of the Department to constantly update information on the COVID-19 situation, apply timely solutions to adjust or suspend the tournaments, and carry out quarantine at training centres if the pandemic evolves complicatedly.

What is important is the joint efforts and unanimity of everyone, from sports managers at all levels to localities, the coaching staff, athletes and fans, in upholding a sense of responsibility and proactivity in combating the disease and protecting the health of their own and of the community.

The good resumption of sports training and competition in a safe community environment will offer a premise for Vietnam to prepare for important international tournaments in 2021 and continue to be one of the prominent examples of rising above the pandemic in regional and global sports.
