An important legal framework On the basis of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982, the National Assembly of Vietnam passed the Vietnam Law of the Sea on June 21, 2012. The law started to officially take effect from January 1, 20213, serving as an important legal framework to regulate Vietnam’s relations at sea and oceans. Dr. Tran Cong Truc shared that the Vietnam Law of the Sea has 54 articles in seven chapters. There are four contents legalized in the law, namely the demarcation of sea areas and continental shelves and assertion of sovereignty over islands and archipelagos; activities in Vietnamese waters; marine economic development; and the management and protection of sea and islands. Vietnam said China’s military exercises violate its territorial waters in Hoang Sa (Paracel Islands) in the South China Sea (referring to the East Sea in Vietnamese). Postage stamp set featuring Vietnam’s Sea and Islands released
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Anh Tuan said that the Vietstampex was held in 1998 for the first time. Since 2000, the stamp exhibition has become a periodical activity being organized every five years. This is an opportunity for stamp collectors to exchange and spread knowledge on stamp collecting development. Moreover, Vietstampex is also an opportunity to learn about stamp collecting hobbies with high cultural value. Low-pressure area to become storm in East Vietnam Sea this week
A low-pressure area is forecast to enter the East Vietnam Sea on Tuesday night and later develop into a tropical depression or storm. As of Monday, the low-pressure area was located in the southern part of the Philippines’ Luzon Island, according to Mai Van Khiem, director of the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. It is expected to enter the northern or central sections of the East Vietnam Sea around Tuesday night. Between Wednesday and Saturday, the low-pressure area is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression with a probability of 70-80 percent, and later evolve into a storm with a chance of 40-60 percent, Khiem added. The weather expert also warned about heavy downpours in northern and north-central Vietnam, as well as rains and thunderstorms in the southern and Central Highlands regions in late June and early July.
