The prices of automobiles in Vietnam have been continuously increasing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic due to a dearth of auto parts. Many Peugeot car models manufactured and assembled by Vietnam’s Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO) will see price hikes of VND20-40 million (US$854-1,709) beginning in September. This is not the first time THACO has increased the prices of its products since the pandemic was put under control. The cost of other models assembled by THACO, such as the Kia Sonet and Kia Seltos, also jumped by tens of millions of dong. A man was killed while his wife was injured after an automobile driver who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol crashed his vehicle into a house in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta on Thursday. Preliminary information showed that Vo Minh Lam, 33, was driving his seven-seater car on National Highway No.1 from Bac Lieu Province to Ca Mau Province at around 3:50 pm. The automobile suddenly entered the opposite lane, mounted the sidewalk, and rammed a house on the side of the road. N.T.H., 66, the owner of the house, and his 67-year-old wife were standing in front of their home at the time of the accident. H. died on the spot, while his wife and the car driver were injured and taken to hospital for emergency treatment. The automobile was heavily damaged during the incident. Coaches with more than 29 seats and 10-tonne minimum capacity trucks will be banned on many streets in Sapa Town in order to help ease traffic jams. These vehicles won’t be allowed to travel on 31 major roads in the town between 6 am and 11 pm from Thursday to Sunday and the whole of Friday and Saturday. Traffic jam in Sapa Local authorities will also arrange one-way traffic for some streets which often see large numbers of tourists. This will be carried out from August 21.
