(Photo: VNA) Vientiane (VNA) – Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue met with representatives of Vietnamese businesses in Laos on May 15 in Vientiane as part of his official visit to Laos . At the meeting, Duong Dinh Bang, Interim Chairman of the Vietnamese Business Association for Cooperation and Investment in Laos, said the Lao Government is amending legal regulations so as to improve the investment climate. Besides, many agreements between the two countries have also created an optimal legal corridor for Vietnamese firms’ investment in Laos. Lotus Festival elevates status of Dong Thap province
Dong Thap is proud to offer hundreds of local products to the wider world. According to Pham Thien Nghia, Chairman of Dong Thap People’s Committee, the event will be held provincewide to promote the cultural identity of Dong Thap people and honour lotus flowers, as well as promote cultural and economic values for products made from Dong Thap lotus plants. The festival, titled “The New Day Lotus”, is also aimed at enhancing lotus farming in association with tourism development. This will help the province build its image and develop local products to attract more tourists and contribute to local socioeconomic development. According to the organisers, the festival will feature a variety of cultural and tourist activities, including art programmes, a workshop on improving the value chain of Dong Thap products, and a “Lotus in Me” art performance. For instance, Brazil - the largest consumer market with a population of up to 200 million people, on average, each year imports more than US$236 billion value of goods and 30 percent of which comes from Asia including Vietnam. According to the statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, three groups of most exports to the Brazilian market since the beginning of the year include footwear of all kinds with $33.18 million, textiles reaching $12.73 million, and bags, wallets, suitcases, hats, umbrellas achieving $3.33 million.
