Solidarity vital to ASEAN’s survival: Vietnamese Deputy PM
Building solidarity based on a foundation of common interests is central to the survival of ASEAN, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh said in a press interview on Tuesday. The statement comes just one week before the socio-economic bloc celebrates its 50th anniversary. ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, was founded on August 8, 1967 when foreign ministers from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand gathered in Bangkok to sign the ASEAN Declaration. The association has since expanded to include Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia, raising its membership count to ten countries. SEA Games: The beauty of Vietnamese wushu
Duong Thuy Vi performs in the jianshu event of SEA Games 31 in Hanoi on Friday. She is considered the golden girl of Vietnamese wushu, who often claims gold for Vietnam in SEA Games and Asian Games. Vi solidified herself as one of the most successful Vietnamese wushu athletes with two world titles, one Asian Games gold and six SEA Games gold, including two at the ongoing Games. Tran Thi Kieu Trang competes in the jianshu event. The girl from Quang Ninh Province said that she developed a passion for wushu after watching other athletes perform on TV. Wushu is a soft, hard and mixed martial art originated from China. Its events are performed using compulsory or individual routines. With a result of 4 minutes and 18.10 seconds, Tran Hung Nguyen not only sustained his top position in the men’s 400m medley since the last Games held in 2019 but also broke the previous Games record of 4 minutes and 20.65 seconds set by himself. Also in this category, the 16-year-old Nguyen Quang Thuan, younger brother of famous swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, secured a silver when finishing his race in 4 minutes and 22.46 seconds, which is an encouraging result as this is the first time he has competed at the region’s biggest sporting event. Vietnamese unit presents gifts to Cambodian armed forces
In particular, on May 12 and 13, the mission presented six gift packages, worth VND 120 million, to the Police Department, Military Sub-region, gendarme force, and the Overseas Vietnamese Associations of Svay Rieng and Pray Veng provinces. The deed aimed to share difficulties with the Cambodian armed forces and people who were strongly affected by natural disasters and diseases.
