Vietnam taxi fare from airport

10,000 HCMC airport staff to get Covid-19 jab

April 12, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

Nguyen Tan Binh, director of the HCMC Department of Health, at a meeting with the HCMC Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control said the city would receive 56,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses to be prioritized for 42,000 medical workers, 10,000 flight crew members and airport personnel.

“The health department has come up with a list of groups to be inoculated, ready to be deployed,” said Binh, adding the vaccination round should complete before May 15, in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s timeline.

The 56,000 vaccine doses to be received by HCMC were produced by British-Swedish firm AstraZeneca and provided through global vaccine access mechanism Covax. The upcoming vaccination round in HCMC would also provide second shots for those who have already been vaccinated in previous rounds.

As of Saturday, the city has vaccinated around 7,530 health workers. Around 1,000 police officers have also been vaccinated, said Binh.

Within this week, HCMC Center for Disease Control (CDC) would also receive an additional 1,600 Covid-19 vaccine doses from Vietnam Vaccine JSC, which ordered them from AstraZeneca, to inoculate hotel employees where entrants are being quarantined, he added.

Nguyen Thanh Phong, chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, said countries in close proximity to Vietnam, including Cambodia and Thailand, are all experiencing new Covid-19 waves with increasing daily cases. Therefore, HCMC must ramp up its Covid-19 prevention measures. No community transmissions have been recorded in the city in around two months.

“We must focus our resources into preventing illegal entrants. The risk of Covid-19 spread into HCMC from other countries is high,” said Phong, adding localities must keep track of entrants and city police must cooperate with the military to ensure safety when receiving, transporting and quarantining illegal entrants.

HCMC has recorded 227 Covid-19 cases in total so far, with only 11 active cases left.

To date, Vietnam has vaccinated over 58,000 against Covid-19, mainly frontline workers in the coronavirus fight.

Dog disrupts Cam Ranh airport landings

April 12, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

Nguyen Minh Khoi, deputy director of the Cam Ranh airport, verified the incident on Monday, local media reported.

Earlier this month, airport authorities found a dog near a water ditch running across a nearby runway, forcing three flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to delay landing by up to 20 minutes.

“The dog was dealt with afterwards and the planes landed safely,” said Khoi, as cited by Tuoi Tre .

An investigation revealed the construction team for one of the airport’s runways raised three dogs. The gates separating the construction site from the runway were opened without anyone watching.

After the ordeal, authorities have requested the three dogs be removed from the construction site.

This is not the first time airport operations have been disrupted by uninvited pets. In January, a flight from HCMC to central Thanh Hoa Province’s Tho Xuan Airport also had to delay landing for 10 minutes due to the presence of a stray dog in an empty apron .

Passengers landed in the home country on Thursday afternoon from two flights operated by Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier.

The returnees, who are those working and living in many parts of Myanmar, arrived in Danang for quarantine.

Vietnam Airlines said it took days to make the flights possible with the focus on safety measures against the pandemic.

All crew members and passengers equipped with personal protection equipment.

All crew members and passengers were required to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) during the flight and to undertake compulsory quarantine upon arrival.

Vietnam suspended international flights since March 2020 but it has maintained repatriation flights and Vietnam Airlines is responsible for almost all flights.

In 2020, Vietnam Airlines operated more than 180 flights bringing home more than 52,500 Vietnamese nationals who were stranded in more than 30 countries and territories.

The repatriation of Vietnamese nationals gives priority to children under 18, the elderly, the sick, students having no dormitories, those facing hardships, and special cases.

HCMC – The Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HoSE) has decided to put the HVN stock of Vietnam Airlines on the warning list from April 15 as its 2020 after-tax profit was reported at negative VND10.9 trillion.

On the stock exchange, HVN stood at VND33,150 per share at the final session last week, with a matching volume of 710,000 shares. The price remained almost unchanged compared with that before the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2020, the national flag carrier reported revenue of VND40.6 trillion, plunging by 69% year-on-year, due to the impact of the health crisis. The airline incurred a loss of over VND11 trillion.

Last year, the total assets of Vietnam Airlines dipped from VND76.5 trillion to VND63 trillion, while its capital dropped at VND6.1 trillion due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As for its business operations in 2020, Vietnam Airlines was allocated VND4 trillion at no interest for three years through credit institutions in line with the Government’s Resolution 194 on supporting Vietnam Airlines to ride out the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Besides, the national flag carrier will have to issue shares worth VND8 trillion to its existing stakeholders to raise its charter capital and recover growth.

A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that the airline would restart earning profits from 2023 and would not incur losses in 2025 if the virus was brought under control and local and international tourism segments recover.

Local airlines add more flights, increase prices for upcoming holiday

April 12, 2021 by vietnamnews.vn

HCM CITY — Local airlines have increased flights to popular destinations to meet travel demand during the upcoming national holiday season.

However, the fares are rising by the hour.

Vietnam Airlines Group, including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and Vasco, is offering 500,000 seats, equivalent to about 2,600 flights to and from Hà Nội, HCM City, Đà Nẵng, Quy Nhơn, Đà Lạt and Phú Quốc, among other localities, between April 4 and May 3.

The number represents an increase of 100,000 seats compared to off-peak periods.

Bamboo Airways has plans to add about 110 to 150 flights per week, which is equivalent to 22,000 to 30,000 seats, with many routes operating at a frequency of up to four to five flights per day.

Popular routes are Hà Nội/HCM City to Phú Quốc, Nha Trang, Quy Nhơn or Vinh, Thanh Hoá and Hải Phòng.

Meanwhile, in addition to launching five new routes from Vinh, Đà Nẵng, Thanh Hoá, Nha Trang and Đà Lạt to Phú Quốc, Vietjet will also increase flight frequency to meet passengers’ needs on the holiday.

Even though more flights have been added, many locals are upset about how expensive and rare some tickets are.

This can be seen from the limited number of flights from Hà Nội to Phú Quốc on April 30. According to the online ticketing site Abay, Vietjet offers the most affordable price at over VNĐ1.8 million per way, but only 25 tickets at 5pm on April 30 were seen at this price.

On the same day, Vietnam Airlines had five flights but they were priced at VNĐ2.9 to 4.2 million per ticket, depending on the ticket class.

Bamboo Airways has the highest price, with VNĐ3.6 million per way at the cheapest and VNĐ4.26 million the most expensive.

Prices on flights between Hà Nội and Nha Trang and between HCM City and Quy Nhơn have increased significantly compared to two weeks ago.

While many airlines have launched more flights and discounts to stimulate travel demand, all of the announcements are accompanied by the phrase “not applicable during peak period”, which covers the upcoming holiday period.

Representatives of some travel agencies pointed out that local tourism is in a demand stimulus stage to recover from a year of bad luck.

The biggest problem now is boosting sales and encouraging locals to travel. However, it is essential for travel agencies to not increase their package prices immediately, but keep everything under control to build trust and confidence among customers.

“During this difficult period, some customers have helped local tourism revive. It seems unfair if travel agencies decide to increase their prices now,” a representative said. — VNS
