HCM City (VNS/VNA) - The imported pork and declining meat consumption have pushed pork prices down, helping stabilise the consumer price index. This month pork has been sold at the Hoc Mon wholesale market in Ho Chi Minh City for around 72,000 VND (3.17 USD) per kilogramme, 8,000 VND down from previous months, according to its management. Le Xuan Huy, deputy general director of the CP Livestock Joint Stock Company, said hog prices are down because of increased imports of both frozen pork and live pigs as well as lower demand. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first seven months of this year Vietnam imported more than 93,248 tonnes of pork, mainly from Canada, Germany, Poland, Brazil, the US, Spain, and Russia, 223 percent up from the same period in 2019. The ministry licensed imports of pigs on the hoof from Thailand from mid-June. As of August 36 companies registered to quarantine more than 4.7 million … [Read more...] about Pork prices fall as Vietnam increases imports

RCEP to help farm produce expand presence in global markets
HCM City (VNA) - The recently-signed Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement will create opportunities for Vietnam’s agricultural products to extend their reach in the region and the world, experts have said. Vietnam signed a number of important economic deals in 2020, heralding a new era of economic integration with opportunities to expand export markets and attract more domestic and foreign investment. Among the deals, the RCEP, which gathers together 10 ASEAN countries and five partners (the Republic of Korea, China, … [Read more...] about RCEP to help farm produce expand presence in global markets
Moon cake market competition heats up
Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - A crowded moon cake market has caused a drop in sales for many stalls ahead of Mid-Autumn Festival. The big day is on October 1 – the 15th day of the 8th month on the lunar calendar, but the moon cake market is still quiet. Popular moon cake brands like Kinh Do, Nhu Lan, Dong Khanh, Hanoi Confectionery and Thu Huong Bakery are traded on stalls in the most crowded areas in Hanoi and HCM City. Despite an increase in discounts and promotions, fewer people are shopping at moon cake stalls than last year. Nguyen Thi Huong, the owner of a moon cake stall on Pham Van Dong Street in HCM City’s Thu Duc District has struggled this year. “I have to use a 'buy 1 get 1' board to attract customers but some just stop to see the price list. Some still buy the products but they are much fewer than ever before," she said. Le Minh Tam, who runs a moon cake stall on An Duong Vuong Street, District 5, told Tin Tuc newspaper: … [Read more...] about Moon cake market competition heats up
