Vietnam – S.Korea trade likely reaches $100bn this year: Consul General

The two-way trade between Vietnam and South Korea may amount to US$100 billion this year, instead of 2023 as previously targeted, said South Korean Consul General in Vietnam’s Da Nang City Ahn Min Sik. The South Korean diplomat released his ambitious expectation after reviewing the bilateral trade result of $45 billion in the first half of this year at a seminar held in the central metropolis on Friday. The event, themed “The history of exchanges between and future prospects of the Vietnam - South Korea relationship,” was part of the celebration of the 30-year anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Despite the heavy impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, both countries gained a two-way trade value of $80.6 billion in 2021, much higher than the $500 million recorded 30 years ago, Consul General Ahn said. Maciej Duszynski, Chargé d'Affaires a.i of the Polish Embassy, highlighted the growing trade and investment cooperation between the E.U. and Vietnam, saying the E.U. has remained Vietnam’s second largest importer and Vietnam is now the E.U.’s major trade partner. Thanks to that, the long-standing Vietnam-Poland relations have grown constantly in all areas, including the trade of agricultural products and food, he said, taking note of discussions on this issue held by leaders of ministries and agencies from the two sides. The Government of Poland is paying great attention to expanding export portfolios to Vietnam, with final steps being undertaken for the shipment of beef products and blueberries to the Southeast Asian country. Vietnam’s middle power diplomacy in ASEAN

Vietnam’s diplomatic activism in ASEAN reflects its status as an emerging middle power. This year marks the 27th anniversary of Vietnam’s ASEAN membership. Accession into ASEAN in 1995 provided Vietnam with a springboard to pursue international integration, attract external resources for economic development, and expand its diplomatic networks. Vietnam participates more deeply in UN peacekeeping operations

South Korean singer releases music video promoting Vietnam’s tourism

South Korean singer Joseph Kwon on Wednesday released his latest music video – an ode to popular tourist attractions across Vietnam in commemoration of 30 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Korea. Ta Quang Dong, deputy minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and Ha Van Sieu, deputy director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, were among those present at the music video premiere, which was held in Hanoi. During the ceremony, Joseph Kwon officially released two songs, Butterfly Flakes and Waiting For You, 5000 Years , both of which he composed and performed.
