Vietnam, Laos’ fronts and ministries step up cooperation
Chau is accompanying Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue on his official visit to Laos from May 15 – 17. Affirming the growing bilateral relations, the officials agreed to focus their attention on organizing activities marking the two countries’ Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022, the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties, and the 45th year of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation. The two are scheduled to visit each other’s country this year. Vietnam and Laos also plan to hold a conference on building a shared border of peace and friendship in 2022. Hanoi reported the highest number of infections on the day with 419 cases, followed by Vinh Phuc with 119 and Phu Tho with 111. The national tally reached 10,699,965. A total 5,094 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on May 17, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,364,857. There are 206 patients needing breathing support, while four deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the total fatalities to 43,071. Hanoi reported the highest number of infections on the day with 381 cases, followed by Nghe An with 126 and Phu Tho with 111. The northern province of Bac Giang registered an additional 1,012 cases from earlier days after verifying information. The national tally reached 10,704,524. A total 9,587 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on May 19, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,382,881.
