August 19, 2022 by tuoitrenews.vn

Worries about the side effects of COVID-19 vaccines and the quality of children’s jabs with extended expiration dates have made parents in Ho Chi Minh City hesitant to have their children vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to a recent survey. The municipal Center for Disease Control (HCDC) on Thursday announced the results of a rapid survey of 2,792 parents on vaccinations for children aged five to under 18 years old who are attending schools in 22 districts of the city. Of these parents, 76 percent have kids aged five to under 12, and the rest have children from 12 to less than 18 years old. Out of the more than 2,100 children aged five to below 12 involved in the survey, 34 percent had yet to be immunized, 33 percent had received their first vaccine shots, and the other 33 percent had gotten their third jabs. In the 12-18 age group, 15 children had yet to be inoculated while the numbers of those with the first, second, and third vaccine doses were 29, 326, and … [Read more...] about Children’s COVID-19 vaccines with extended shelf life worry parents in Ho Chi Minh City

August 19, 2022 by tuoitrenews.vn

Vietnam recorded nearly 3,300 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest daily count in more than three months, with the Ministry of Health attributing the resurgence to the new fast-spreading Omicron sub-variants. The health ministry documented 3,295 COVID-19 patients on Thursday, raising the national tally to 11,376,571, with 10,049,215 recoveries and 43,103 deaths. The country has so far detected four Omicron sub-variants including BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.12.1, and BA.2.74, which are more transmissible than the original strain, according to the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the health ministry. At Hanoi’s COVID-19 treatment hospital, the number of patients has bounced back in the past week. The facility is providing treatment for about 35-37 patients, most of whom have underlying conditions. Nguyen Minh Tien, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Hospital, stated that COVID-19 pediatric patients at the infirmary have increased in recent days. … [Read more...] about Vietnam’s COVID-19 daily count hits 3-month high

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Natural disasters are becoming more unpredictable and extreme due to climate change, causing more extensive damage to people and property. In Vietnam, since the beginning of this year, natural disasters have been increasingly irregular, with unseasonal rains and flooding accompanied by thunder storms , strong winds and storms. From March 30 to April 2, heavy rain in the central region caused widespread damage, especially to agricultural production. From April 15 to 28, 41 earthquakes were recorded in Kon Plong district in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum. In April, May and mid-June, prolonged downpours pushed water levels in the north to historic highs. Such torrential rain has led to landslides and flash floods in mountainous areas, as well as flooding in urban areas and industrial zones, especially in Hanoi, Vinh Yen, Bac Ninh and Bac … [Read more...] about Vietnam improves forecasting in face of natural disasters

Ho Chi Minh City’s foreign enclaves settle into ‘new normal’

August 19, 2022 by tuoitrenews.vn

Since Vietnam officially declared the COVID-19 pandemic under control earlier this year, foreign enclaves in Ho Chi Minh City have, once again, begun to bustle, with old stores resuming their operations and new shops opening every day in commercial spaces that sat unoccupied for months on end. Once Vietnam dropped its on-arrival COVID-19 testing requirement for foreign travelers and reopened its international air routes in mid-May, the number of foreigners entering the country began to increase, paving the way for foreign enclaves in Ho Chi Minh City to return to their pre-pandemic life. In Tan Phong Ward, District 7, home to a significant portion of the South Korean community in Ho Chi Minh City, many stores that shut down between late 2020 and early 2022 are once again open for business, and new shops are moving into commercial spaces that have sat empty for months. Kim Yong Min, a South Korean national living in District 7, shared that his eyeglasses stores, which mainly … [Read more...] about Ho Chi Minh City’s foreign enclaves settle into ‘new normal’
