Illustrative image (Source: Vientiane Times) Vientiane (VNA) - Laos and China have launched their Visit Laos-China Year 2019 – a major campaign to boost tourism cooperation between the two countries throughout the year. The Lao newspaper Vientiane Times quoted Lao tourism authorities as saying that a number of activities took place at the National Culture Hall on January 25 to mark the launch of the year-long tourism promotion, including cultural performances and an exhibition of Lao, Chinese tourism products, and screening of films on the two countries’ special attractions. According to the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, more than 4.1 million visitors came to Laos in 2018, of whom over 800,000 came from China, an annual increase of 26 percent. This year, Laos expects to welcome more than 1 million Chinese visitors. Opening the forum, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung noted that Vietnam has an average GDP growth of 6.6 percent a year during the past three years, one of the highest growth rates in the region and the world. The country earned nearly 500 billion USD from exports in 2018, ranked among the top 30 economies with largest foreign trade revenues in the world, he said, adding that Vietnam is a member of many new-general free trade agreements, with the latest being the EU-Vietnam FTA to be signed at the end of this month. KPMG Vietnam unveiled its latest trade initiative for British and Vietnamese exporters According to KPMG, the new trade initiative addresses four pillars of challenges that British and Vietnamese firms may face in bilateral trade relationships. The first one is commercial hurdles, which involve verifying the identity of trading partners as well as detecting possible connections to money-laundering or other types of fraud. The second pillar addresses legal issues related to compliance with local laws and international standards. This includes corporate transparency, ethical questions, and government regulations for both British exporters and their Vietnamese counterparts. Tax, the third pillar, analyses the linkage between tax morality and tax compliance.
