Vietnam records 1.35 billion USD trade deficit in first half of June Vietnam reported a trade deficit of 1.35 billion USD in the first half of June as exports reached only 12.3 billion USD – down nearly 2 billion USD compared to the latter half of May, the General Department of Customs has announced. Among items posting the strongest turnover decline included computers, electronics and parts with 1.06 billion USD, down 800 million USD; machinery and equipment with 1.1 billion USD, down 260 million USD; and telephones and components with 1.96 billion USD, down 50 million USD. Since the beginning of this year to mid-June, the nation’s trade value surpassed 288.6 billion USD. Of the sum, over 143.3 billion USD came from exports, up 30 percent year-on-year while the remainder of 145.3 billion USD was from imports, up 36 percent. Illustrative image Hanoi (VNA) - Two international undersea cable lines - Intra Asia (IA) and Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) - that make up the majority of Internet connection capacity from Vietnam to the world have encountered problems since the beginning of this year. The IA cable, connecting Vietnam with Hong Kong and other parts of Asia, experienced technical problems starting January 1. The cause was determined by a cable error on segment 1, about 49 km away from the docking station at Singapore’s cable line. The problem affects all connections to Singapore. Meanwhile, the APG cable had a problem on the S3 branch, interrupting information in the direction of connecting to Hong Kong (China), Japan. Currently, Internet service providers in Vietnam have not received any plan to repair the trouble on the two undersea cables. Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The number of Singaporean millionaires may increase by more than 60 percent in the next five years following a surge in millionaires forecast in the region after financial capitals emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the 2021 Global Wealth Report released by Credit Suisse Group AG. The report shows that Singapore may have 437,000 millionaires by 2025 compared with 270,000 in 2020, representing a rise of 62 percent, a faster growth than Hong Kong’s estimated 60 percent for the period, but slower than the growth forecast in China, India, Australia, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan (China). Singapore’s millionaire density – or percentage of millionaires in the total population –  was 5.5 percent in 2020, the second-highest in Asia after Hong Kong’s 8.3 percent, the report says.
