HCM City (VNS/VNA) - A number of universities in the country will launch new majors for the 2021-2022 academic year to meet labour market demand. The amended Education Law gives universities the right to make independent decisions on opening new academic majors. Pham Thai Son, director of the Communications and Enrollment Centre at the HCM City University of Food Industry, said “The university will have six new majors this year, including food business management, fashion and textile business, marketing, thermal engineering and technology, energy management, and analytical chemistry engineering.” “Students in the food business management major will study business administration and food technology,” Son said. Hanoi (VNA) – Le Thi Tuong Vy, a student from the Nam Can Tho University was crowned the 2020 Vietnam Miss University at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 19 evening. The first and second runners-up are Nguyen Tran Van Dinh from the Foreign Trade University - Ho Chi Minh City, and Le Thi Phuong Doan from the Industrial University of HCM City. Organisers also awarded various auxiliary titles to honour contestants who won the largest number of votes online, showed their outstanding talents, made significant contribution to the community, staged the best performance with Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), and showed the best English speaking skills. Hanoi (VNA) – Forty-one outstanding girls are competing for the crown of the Vietnam Miss University 2020 during the final round held from January 13-20 in Hanoi. Themed “The Beauty of Wisdom,” the pageant aims to honour the beauty of wisdom, talent and dynamism of Vietnamese students. The final night will be held at the Viet Xo Friendship Cultural Palace on January 19, and be broadcast live on Vietnam Cable Television (VTV Cab) channels. The jury includes Assoc. Free shelter for kidney failure patients in Vinh Long
Vinh Long (VNA) - A kindhearted couple in the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long has run a free shelter for kidney dialysis patients and their relatives for more than two years, sharing their financial burden and giving them a second home. As they need kidney dialysis once every two days, the patients who live far from the hospital feel lucky to be offered accommodation at a housing complex in Binh Minh town, Vinh Long province owned by Tran Van Hien and Nguyen Thi Kim Hong. The 300sq.m house has three separate areas, two for beds where the patients rest and one for a common space where families of kidney dialysis patients cook, eat and do daily activities together. Tran Van Hien, the house owner, said after visiting the hospital, he and his wife witnessed many kidney dialysis patients who were in pain forced to rest in the hospital’s lobby.
