BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam

June 23, 2022 by vir.com.vn

Jinwoo Song, CEO of BAEMIN Vietnam As online food delivery platforms grow, one of the most pressing concerns is the volume of plastic waste generated throughout its operations and how it is tackled. The effectiveness in which different countries are dealing with the plastic waste produced by online food delivery will be dependent on how well developed their recycling infrastructure is and the speed of online food delivery has grown. “While the recent discussion often revolves around the plastic waste only, I think it’s equally important to review other aspects of environmental challenges posed by the food technology industry that is food waste and the increase of carbon footprint”, shared Jinwoo. The pandemic has prompted the use of single-use, disposable food packaging as consumers believe single-use packaging was safer and more hygienic. Even though they have become more environmentally conscious, it’s unlikely that they will consider keeping leftover food for future meals … [Read more...] about BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam

Vietnam plans to cut MFN tariff on gasoline to fight inflation

June 30, 2022 by tuoitrenews.vn

Vietnam plans to cut its Most Favoured Nation (MFN) tariff on gasoline to 12% from 20% to help ease inflationary pressure, the government said on Thursday. The move will also help Vietnam diversify its sources of gasoline imports and reduce its reliance on its key suppliers including South Korea and its neighbours in Southeast Asia, the government said in a news release. The MFN tariff is a standard rate applied in trading between World Trade Organization (WTO) members, unless a separate trade agreement exists. Under free trade deals between Vietnam and South Korea and within the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the import tariff on gasoline is about 8%. Vietnam, a regional manufacturing hub, reported gross domestic product growth of 7.72% in the second quarter this year, but like many of its neighbours is facing a mounting pressure on inflation with higher prices for energy and food. The government said it also plans to cut special consumption tax, … [Read more...] about Vietnam plans to cut MFN tariff on gasoline to fight inflation

Flexible adjustment needed in growth economy

July 1, 2022 by www.sggpnews.org.vn

Illustrative photo Now more problems have arisen with rising gasoline and oil prices that have created bottlenecks in growth momentum along with high inflation. Need for solutions Recently the Ministry of Finance submitted a draft Resolution to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on reducing the environmental protection tax rate for gasoline and oil. It is proposed in the Resolution to reduce environmental protection tax from VND 2,000 per liter to floor level of VND 1,000 per liter, in order to curb rising inflation. However, the Ministry of Finance still keeps the same rate for Special Consumption Tax (SCT) and Value Added Tax (VAT) for gasoline. While these two taxes are on a relative value, when the tax base is larger, then more tax is collected and forms a large component of the current gasoline selling price. Previously, many experts had suggested that authorities must consider reducing these two taxes. During one session, a member of the National … [Read more...] about Flexible adjustment needed in growth economy
