Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong has unveiled a six-point action plan after being re-elected to the same position for the 2021-26 term. The official, also a deputy secretary of the municipal Party Committee, won the re-election after obtaining a majority of votes in favor at the first session of the local 10th People’s Council on Thursday. Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have decided to turn two hospitals into COVID-19 treatment facilities, raising the total number of beds for coronavirus patients in the city to 5,000. Nine hospitals with 3,500 beds are currently providing COVID-19 treatment in Ho Chi Minh City, according to the municipal Department of Health. As the number of cases in the metropolis recently passed 2,000, local health authorities have decided to temporarily transform Binh Chanh District Hospital and Thu Duc Regional General Hospital into infirmaries specializing in receiving and treating COVID-19 patients. All medical examination and treatment activities for outpatients and inpatients at Binh Chanh District Hospital will be suspended. Violating COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control regulations in Ho Chi Minh City is punishable by a fine worth up to VND40 million (US$1,730). The decision was made at the request of the Quang Binh People’s Committee in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19. The suspension will remain valid until further notice.
