Photo qdnd.vn HÀ NỘI — After the Vietnamese imposition of anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties, the volume of Thai sugar imported to Việt Nam hit a four-year low in Q1 of 2022, speeding up the recovery of domestic sugar. Thailand exported 199,780 tonnes of sugar to Việt Nam in Q1 of 2021. On June 15, 2021, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade began to apply trade remedies to the commodity, driving down the figure to just 33,682 tonnes in Q1 of 2022. The decline of Thai sugar has given a boost to domestic production. The Vietnam Sugar and Sugarcane Association (VSSA) reported that 6.4 million tonnes of sugarcane had been pressed by late April to produce 662,530 tonnes of sugar, up 5.1 per cent year-on-year.
