Hundreds run to raise fund for children with cancer in Ho Chi Minh City
Hundreds of athletes, artists, and local residents participated in a charity run in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday morning to mark the 15th anniversary of the Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper-backed Thuy’s Dream Foundation for children with cancer. The Sunflower Run, organized by Tuoi Tre, the Vietnam Youth Union in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Students Assistance Center, kicked off at the Vinhomes Central Park in Binh Thanh District at 7:00 am on Sunday. Heavy downpours submerged multiple places in northern Vietnam on Monday morning, with Vinh Yen City in Vinh Phuc Province suffering the most serious flooding. Rainfall ranging from 70 to 190 millimeters battered many provinces in the region early on Monday morning, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported. In Vinh Yen City, Vinh Phu Province, a torrential rain resulted in severe inundation in various locations. Such major streets as Nguyen Tat Thanh and Me Linh were flooded, leaving traffic paralyzed on many sections. The situation posed countless difficulties for commuters, especially motorcyclists. Parking service operators, street vendors encroach on sidewalks near hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City
The sidewalks encircling several hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have been turned into parking lots for motorbikes and trading areas for street vendors, leaving little to no space for pedestrians. Although the municipal Department of Transport requested that the People’s Committees of Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, and 11, where many large hospitals are located, crack down on the sidewalk encroachment, the issue has remained rampant as of Wednesday. Some sidewalk occupiers even put up barriers to stop pedestrians from walking through their parking lots, which can be seen on the sidewalks of Nguyen Chi Thanh and Thuan Kieu Streets near Cho Ray Hospital and along Ly Thuong Kiet Street near Hung Vuong Hospital, both in District 5.
