Tropical storm Mulan to hit northern Vietnam tomorrow

The storm is forecast to cause heavy downpours and rough seas in the northern region, including Hanoi, in the coming days. A tropical low depression has strengthened into a tropical storm named Mulan, which will hit the northern coast of Vietnam early on August 11 morning, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting (NCHMF). Mulan is the second tropical storm to have formed in the East Sea this year and will enter Vietnamese waters shortly, the center said, adding that its center was 480 kilometers from Mong Cai in the northern province of Quang Ninh this morning with winds of up to 62-88 kilometers per hour (kph). Tropical storm likely to form in East Sea, heavy rain expected

A tropical depression formed in the northern part of the East Sea on August 9 and is likely to strengthen into a storm in the next 24 hours, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting. Northern coastal provinces will brace for a spell of heavy rain in the coming day as a new storm is likely to form in the East Sea on August 10. The tropical depression, packing winds of between 39-49kph near its centre at around 1am on August 9, is forecast to move north and north-east and then change its direction into north and north-west to travel at a speed of 10kph. It is anticipated to gain strength into a storm at around 1am on August 10 with winds gusting between 62 – 74kph near its eye. Tropical depression intensifies into storm toward north

The tropical depression in the East Sea has intensified into storm Mulan moving toward the north. According to the latest weather news of the National Center for Hydrology Meteorology Forecasting, Mulan was around 300 kilometers southeast of Hainan Island (China) with a speed of up to 110 kilometers an hour. In the next 24-48 hours, the tropical storm will likely move north and turn toward the northwest and west-northwest. After that, it is expected to begin weakening into a tropical depression on August 11. Under the influence of the storm, the Gulf of Tonkin including the island districts of Co To and Bach Long Vi will likely experience increased gales and rough surf. A tropical low depression on August 9 strengthened into a tropical storm named MULAN which is travelling towards the northern coast of Vietnam, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting. At 01pm on August 9, MULAN was located nar the northern part of the Hoang Sa archipelago of Vietnam, approximately 300km south east of China’s Hainan island. It was packing winds of between 62 and 74kph nears its eye. In the next 24 hours, the storm is forecast to move north and change its course into north-west at a speed of 15-20kph. In the next 24 to 48 hours, the storm is anticipated to travel west and north-west at a speed of 15kph and weaken into a tropical low depression. Up to 5 storms to affect Vietnam’s mainland until early 2023

About eight to ten storms and tropical depressions are forecast to appear in the East Vietnam Sea from now until February, the Vietnam News Agency quoted the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting (NCHF) as reporting. Among them, three to five will directly affect the Vietnamese mainland, according to Nguyen Van Huong, an official of the NCHF. In October and November, the rain volume in southern and central Vietnam will be higher than the average of previous years, with heavy downpours forecast to occur frequently, Huong continued.
