PANO - The Southern Women Museum is exhibiting 152 images and 84 objects highlighting weaving and dying methods and patterns of the traditional costumes of Cham, Khmer and other ethnic minority groups in the Truong Son-Central Highland region. The exhibition, opened on October 14th in Ho Chi Minh City, aims to honor women of those groups, who have been trying to preserve their traditional trade. It is also to introduce to visitors the groups’ cultures, and preservation of traditional trade, contributing to local socio-economic and tourism development. According to Nguyen Thi Tham, the museum’s manager, typical patterns on traditional costume of the ethnic minority groups feature the living environment, culture and rituals of each group. The festival is organized by the Hanoi municipal Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Center, as part of the activities in response to Vietnam’s hosting of SEA Games 31. PANO – Numerous handicraft products made by local ethnic people have been bought by a large number of tourists visiting Sa Pa district, Lao Cai province during special holidays and events. Brocaded and embroidered products such as clothes, bags and towels as well as wooden souvenirs have been selling the best. Others are fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants grown by ethnic people. At present, there are 3 markets and trade centres with 500 households doing business in the town.
