The impressive growth of Viet Nam's tourism sector has given a boost to tourism and resort property market, according to experts. This period is considered a "golden" time for the resort property market, especially the "condotel" model, particularly in Nha Trang, Da Nang and Phu Quoc in 2016. Nha Trang welcomed nearly 1.2 million foreign tourists in 2016, up about 23 per cent year-on-year, while the central city of Da Nang served around 1.7 million vacationers, marking a 33 per cent increase. Director of Savills Asia Pacific's Hotel Consulting Department Rudolf Hever attributed the growth to improving infrastructure and easier visa policies for foreigners, noting that Việt Nam currently records nine international airports, which are being upgraded with more terminals and runways. The growth of tourism is creating opportunities for the hospitality market, especially the mid-end and high-end segments, according to Savills’ latest review. Enhanced tourist flows are creating more opportunities for the hotel market, especially in the upper-mid to high-end segments. From 2013 to 2016, the supply of four and five-star hotels increased 20 per cent on average to meet international tourist demand for upscale resorts and luxury accommodation. Sub-markets As major economic hubs, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi attract the most tourists. Meetings-Incentives-Conventions-Exhibitions (MICE) and business travelers accounted for over 40 per cent of total international arrivals to Vietnam. According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam received more than 2.2 million foreign visitors in the first two months of this year, an increase of 33% compared to the same period last year. The country also welcomed nearly 1.2 million international visitors in February this year, up 19.1% over January and up 42.2% over the same period in 2016, a record increase in the number of foreign visitors in a month. According to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, February is also the second consecutive month when Vietnam received more than 1 million foreign visitors in a month. Earlier in January, the country also received more than 1 million visitors, up 23.6% over the same period in 2016.
