Mekong Delta province stops mobile karaoke over Covid-19 fears

March 3, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

Nguyen Thanh Binh, chairman of the Mekong Delta province’s People’s Committee, on Wednesday said the decision stemmed from mobile karaoke services posing a high risk of coronavirus infection, local media reported.

Singing karaoke means many people would use the same mic, which may be an infection source if not properly disinfected, he explained. Those who organize or engage with such services would be dealt with in accordance with existing Covid-19 prevention protocols, he added.

Previously on Monday, Binh said the province-wide mobile karaoke ban was also based on the recent coronavirus outbreak in Cambodia, which borders An Giang.

Due to the complex situation in Cambodia, there is a high chance more Vietnamese would return home, said Binh. As such, border guards need to be more vigilant to keep out illegal entrants, he stressed.

Mobile karaoke often takes place at street restaurants or cafes, operated by a pair, of whom one member would be singing songs and the other trying to sell snacks among diners or drinkers, who sometimes partake in the performance.

But such services have garnered criticism as they could result in noise pollution. Fights have been sparked by such disputes, resulting in injuries or even death.

Last October, a man in southern Dong Nai Province was stabbed to death by his neighbor for singing karaoke loudly until near midnight, reacting aggressively when asked to stop. Similar incidents have been reported often.

Vietnam has recorded 2,475 Covid-19 cases so far, with 538 still active.

Nguyen Hue flower street opens amid COVID-19 fears

February 11, 2021 by vov.vn

The street has been forced to open later than originally planned due to the complicated developments relating to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Ho Chi Minh City.

Each year sees many people flock to the street with locals keen to celebrate the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet, with the site now crowded like in previous years.

In line with the Health Ministry’s 5K message of khau trang, facemask, khu khuan, disinfecting, khoang cach, distance, khong tu tap, no gatherings, and khai bao y te, health declarations, all visitors are required to follow relevant precautions.

Vo Thi Kieu Hanh of District 3 says that snapping photos whilst in a face mask is a special thing. Although it’s quite different from previous years, she still feels safe and encouraged others to follow the Health Ministry’s guidelines in an effort to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The flower street opens for visitors from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and is set to last through to February 15, or the fourth day of the first lunar month.

COVID-19: No tolerance policy for illegal immigrants

December 29, 2020 by vov.vn

Whilst it is natural to be wary of undergoing the quarantine process, it remains vial to not harm or undermine the efforts of the community and country, Deputy PM Dam said during an ongoing conference held between the Government and centrally-run localities in Hanoi.

This comes after a group of six Vietnamese people illegally entered the nation through the border with Cambodia on December 24. Upon their detection, four of the individuals have since tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, while hundreds of people who came into contact with these cases have been placed into quarantine for medical surveillance.

With the source of virus infections mainly coming from outside the country, it remains vital for the nation to tighten its management of borders, according to the Deputy PM. In line with this, it is also important to set up a system so people can provide information regarding illegal entries.

The Deputy PM also pointed out that concentrated quarantine work has not been carried out in a serious manner in several localities following a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection being detected at a quarantine facility in Ho Chi Minh City last month.

According to the Deputy PM, those who complete their 14-day quarantine period as regulated will also have to self-isolate and undergo medical observation at home to ensure they are free of COVID-19.

“Even though we have vaccines, we are unlikely to carry out a massive vaccination campaign until the summer of 2021,” Deputy PM Dam warned. “We have no other choice but to strictly implement preventative measures.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Security To Lam admitted that hundreds of people illegally enter the country each day, thereby putting increasing pressure on local police forces.

He cited statistics, indicating that approximately 70,000 Vietnamese people stranded overseas due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic have been repatriated under the Prime Minister’s instructions.

An additional hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese citizens also aspire to return home, with the number expected to keep rising ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, which is just over a month away, said Minister Lam.

According to the police minister, a large number of Vietnamese people based in China and Cambodia will attempt to cross the border and enter the country in the near future, making it vital to strengthen border management.

COVID-19: Vietnam reports ten more imported cases, with 1,318 recoveries

December 28, 2020 by vov.vn

Among the newly detected patients, nine entered Cam Ranh Airport on flight VN5062 from Russia and were isolated in the south central province of Khanh Hoa province immediately after entry.

Their test results came back for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the Center for Disease Control of Khanh Hoa province on December 27.

The 1,451st patient is a 23-year-old Vietnamese man, who crossed illegally through small trails from Myanmar on December 24 and then returned to Ho Chi Minh City. He was diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the HCM City Center for Disease Control. The patient is currently put into isolation to receive treatment at Cu Chi Field Hospital.

The same day, 15 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear, raising the total recoveries to 1,318, while fatalities remained at 35.

Among patients still under treatment, 10 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 11 twice and 13 thrice.

More than 17,000 people are currently being quarantined throughout the nation, with 163 at hospitals, and the remainder at designated concentrated facilities and at homes or accommodations.

In the face of the complicated developments of the pandemic and the possible resurgence of the pandemic at any time, the Ministry of Health continues to urge people to strictly follow regulations regarding COVID-19 prevention and control in a bid to halt the spread of COVID-19.
