HCMC launches online land data platform
The platform comprises the two websites geodata-stnmt.tphcm.gov.vn and esb-stnmt.tphcm.gov.vn to store a total 450 resource and environmental data files of the whole city, including information on subdivision, land area, zoning plans, land use purposes and land subsidence, Bui Hong Son, director of the information-technology center under the Department of Natural Resources and Environment announced Wednesday. "This platform is similar to Google Maps, and businesses and citizens can use data from it, like ride-hailing firms use Google’s remote sensing data for their services," he said. Petrovietnam eyes $18.5 bln refinery
The project, to be located in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, will be developed in two phases, with 70 percent of funding needed in the first, the state-owned company said in a proposal. If approved, this will be the third oil refinery in Vietnam. Vietnam is set to record a shortage of 19.5 million tons of fuel annually from 2030 and 49 million from 2045, Petrovietnam forecast. Domestic consumption is now at 18 million tons a year and will reach 33 million by 2030, but two existing refineries, Dung Quat and Nghi Son, will only be able to produce at most 13.5 million tons by 2025, it said. Vietnam's current fuel reserve is as low as 5-7 days of consumption, which means it must be dependent on imports, it added. As the country has been spending billions of U.S. dollars annually to import fuel, an additional oil refinery and storage complex is necessary, Petrovietnam said. Ba Ria – Vung Tau is suggested because the southern region consumes the most fuel in the nation at 45 percent … [Read more...] about Petrovietnam eyes $18.5 bln refinery
Mexico records deadliest year yet for journalists, with 18 murders so far: report
Of the 18 deaths, Article 19 had identified a potential link to their work in nine cases so far, the organization's regional director Leopoldo Maldonado told Reuters. "2022 could be the worst year in a century for the press," Maldonado said. In a little over eight months, the death toll for 2022 has already outpaced the 13 murders recorded last year and the 14 recorded in 2020. Article 19 found the deaths were linked to the victims' profession in about half of the cases in 2021 and 2020, it said. Meanwhile, the organization has documented a total of 331 attacks against journalists in the first half of the year, most of which involve intimidation and harassment. Some also received threats, while a handful of cases involved the alleged abuse use of public power. That marks a 51.83% increase compared to the first half of 2018, when former President Enrique Pena Nieto was in power, it said. In addition, Article 19 said four journalists had been forcibly displaced within the … [Read more...] about Mexico records deadliest year yet for journalists, with 18 murders so far: report
