(VOVworld)- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has lauded the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association for its contributions to the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand. Meeting with Chairman of the association Prachuab Chaiyasan in Bangkok on Friday, the PM said he hopes the association will continue to work closely with the Vietnamese side in boosting people-to-people exchanges. He took the occasion to express his condolences for the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The PM was in Bangkok to pay respect to the late King of Thailand. On that day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received President of Siam Cement Group (SCG) Roongrote Rangsiyopash and President of SCG Chemicals Cholanat Yanaranop. A target of one million startups by 2020 is going to need some serious funding. Vietnam recently launched an ambitious plan to transform the country from an offshore manufacturing hub for foreign companies into a major player in the global digital economy. In doing so, the government has adjusted business policies to pivot around small and medium-sized companies and encouraged the startup boom. There is no question that one of the challenges facing startups is to find the capital they need to get their ideas off the ground. There have been mixed opinions about whether or not the Vietnamese government should turn itself into a venture capitalist to support early-stage startups. Working with local officials and representatives from Chinese Taiwan, Japanese and Republic of Korea businesses in Dong Nai, Deputy Prime Minister hailed the timely response of the local government in stopping some extremists from taking advantage of workers' protests against China's illegal placement of its oil rig in Vietnam's waters to commit social disturbance, affecting the enterprises. The Vietnamese government will intensify the fight against corruption for the sake of development and integration, a representative of the Government Inspectorate said on Dec. 14 at the Consultative Group Meeting 2006 in Ha Noi. The Government will focus on revising legal documents guiding the fight against corruption and wastefulness. It will also work hard to achieve transparency in the management and use of land, public property, budget spending, capital construction investment, finance management and equitisation of State-owned enterprises, in addition to the mobilisation and righteous use of contributions by people, and personnel work. In 2006, the Government gave swift instructions concerning investigations into major and complicated corruption cases.
