The climate change organisation

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has been seriously implementing its commitments related to climate change at both global and regional levels, especially within the ASEAN framework, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said while addressing a teleconferenced high-level open debate of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on July 24. This event, themed “Climate Change and Security”, was held by Germany, which holds the UNSC presidency in July, and the Like-Minded Group. It was attended by senior representatives of 21 member states of the UN and the EU, along with speakers who included a UN Assistant Secretary-General and experts from some research institutes and non-governmental organisations. Until now, all Parties to the Paris Agreement have submitted their NDCs to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). However, each country’s NDC is very different, communicating contributions respective to national circumstances and also providing conditions to fulfil its contributions. The current NDCs, if fully implemented, would lead to the average global temperature increase of about 3oC, much higher than the target stated in the Paris Agreement which is to keep a global temperature rise below 2oC above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5oC. To narrow the gap in climate change response efforts, the UNFCCC Secretariat has asked countries to review and update their NDCs, ensuring that their NDCs reflect their highest ambitions. Hanoi (VNA) - A walk was held around Hoan Kiem Lake at the heart of Hanoi on June 7 morning to raise public awareness of environmental protection. The event was part of the “Green Earth” programme initiated by the Vietnam Energy magazine since mid-May, in response to World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8).  It encouraged people to walk more and reduce dependence on private vehicles in the hope of keeping fit and cutting down on the use of fuel, greenhouse gas emissions, air and noise pollution.  The walk was joined by representatives of ministries and sectors and well known artists such as composer Tran Hieu, diva Thanh Lam and actor Thanh Son, among others.
