Meanwhile, in the women’s 500m doubles, Vietnam claimed a bronze. Thai rowers secured a gold, and Indonesian athletes earned a silver. Vietnam fetched a silver in the women’s 500m kayak doubles. The gold medal went to Indonesia. The canoeing/kayak competitions will continue in the northern port city of Hai Phong on May 21. SEA Games 31, themed “For a Stronger Southeast Asia”, features 40 sports with 523 events. The biennial event was initially slated for late 2021 but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thai group visits Vietnam’s Phu Quoc, promises to bring tourists to ‘pearl island’
A Thai familiarization trip (fam trip) group visited Phu Quoc Island, off Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam, for a survey tour earlier this week as a preparation for bringing more Thai travelers to the offshore island city, commonly known as the ‘pearl island.’ Some 30 members of the group started their three-day tour of Phu Quoc on Wednesday with a welcome from the provincial Department of Tourism, Kien Giang Tourism Association, and local travel firms. “This is the first Thai tourist group that has visited Phu Quoc since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit Vietnam in early 2020,” said Nguyen Chi Thanh, deputy director of the Kien Giang Department of Tourism. During their stay, the fam trip group enjoyed a cable car journey on Hon Thom (Pineapple Islet), part of Phu Quoc Island City, and visited Phu Quoc prison relics, Long Beach Center, VinWonders Phu Quoc Theme Park, and Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc. SEA Games 31: Thai cyclist tops men’s time trial finals
At a cycling event of SEA Games 31 (Photo: VNA) Hoa Binh (VNA) – The finals of the men's and women’s time trial events of cycling at the ongoing SEA Games 31 took place on May 20 in the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh. In the men’s time trial, Chawchiang Kwang Peerapol of Thailand secured the gold medal while Cahyadi Aiman of Indonesia and Rosly Muhammad Nur Aiman of Malaysia bagged the silver and bronze. Piriatna Delia Ayustina of Indonesia triumphed in the women’s category, followed by Luo Yiweei of Singapore and Somrat Phetdarin of Thailand. Lam Thi Kim Ngan of host Vietnam finished eighth in the women’s event, while Nguyen Truong Tai came fifth and Nguyen Tuan Vu came eighth in the men’s event. SEA Games 31: Thai players advance to women’s table tennis final

In her match, Suthasini won 4-0 against Ho Ying of Malaysia. Meanwhile, Orawan secured the last ticket to the final by defeating Zeng Jian of Singapore 4-3. On the afternoon of May 20, in the men’s single event, Vietnam ese players Nguyen Anh Tu and Nguyen Duc Tuan are scheduled play semi-finals against their rivals from Thailand and Singapore. SEA Games 31: Thai media comment on Vietnam’s win in women’s football final

Vietnam won over Thailand 1- 0 in the match, freshly following which State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent their congratulations to the team. In its story, the Daily News said the final, held on Cam Pha Stadium of Quang Ninh province, was a game between equally talented teams, but Vietnam were in the lead thanks to a goal by Huynh Nhu at the 59th minute to grab the gold medal. Seminar highlights significance of President Ho Chi Minh’s move to ATK Dinh Hoa
