Temple dedicated to martyrs inaugurated in Dien Bien province

The temple commemorates soldiers who laid down their lives in the Dien Bien Phu battlefield. It covers 50,000 sq.m. and costs 105 billion VND (about 4.5 million USD), including 90 billion VND funded by Lien Viet Post Commercial Joint Stock Bank and the remainder from the local budget. Speaking at the ceremony, President Phuc said he felt grateful for great President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap, officers and soldiers, young volunteers, and people’s sacrifices for the victory in Dien Bien Phu. The martyrs' temple is a work of profound political and social meaning, reflecting the deep affection and gratitude of the Party, State and people throughout the country for the heroic martyrs in Dien Bien Phu, and meeting the needs and aspirations of people, war veterans, those with meritorious services to the revolution, and martyrs' relatives. Defending champions Vietnam beat Malaysia 1-0 at Viet Tri Stadium in northern Phu Tho Province on Thursday night to set up an exciting Southeast Asian (SEA) Games men’s football final against archrivals Thailand. Vietnam tops SEA Games 31 medal tally with 125 golds

The host country is getting closer to its set target of 140 golds. Thailand ranked second with 53 golds, followed by the Philippines with 37. On the day, the Vietnamese athletics team won three more gold medals in the women’s javelin throw, women’s 10,000m and women’s 4x400m, raising the number in the sport to 19 and surpassing the target of 15-17. Runner Nguyen Thi Oanh obtained triple golds in the women’s 1,000m; 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase, in which she broke her own record set in the previous SEA Games. Marathoner wins historic gold for Vietnam at SEA Games 31
