Transport Ministry prepares for booming travel demand in Tet holiday

195 people killed in traffic accidents during seven days of Tet
As many as 195 people have been killed and 199 others injured in 218 traffic accidents during the seven days of the Lunar New Year or Tet holiday in Vietnam according to the Ministry of Public Security. Vice chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, Khuat Viet Hung visits a man who was injured in a traffic accident on February 16 According to the National Committee of Traffic Safety, five traffic accidents happened on the last day of the Lunar New Year on Tuesday, causing 19 fatalities and 34 injuries, which was the lowest numbers compared to that of the previous days. Most of the accidents involved motorbikes and were caused by drunk driving and breaking traffic rules, the committee said. During the seven days of the holiday, traffic police dealt with over 19,000 violations on roads and issued fines worth VND 12 billion (USD528,867).
