The 2-kilometer-long section is envisioned going underground from the Cong Hoa station of Metro Line No. 5 to the biggest international airport in Vietnam and have two stations, according to the city government’s document sent to the Ministry of Planning and Investment on Tuesday. The document said there has not been any study for building the planned metro section, which is expected to meet the demand of a large number of passengers for travelling to and from Tan Son Nhat airport. Yakabe Yoshinori, Japan's deputy general consul in Ho Chi Minh City, held a meeting with Dong Nai Province authorities on February 14 to discuss construction of Long Thanh International Airport. It was reported that the Japanese government is still undecided whether to provide official development assistance funding for the project. At the meeting, Yoshinori said his government has not made a final decision because the airport remains controversial in Vietnam. Some people are calling for upgrading Tan Son Nhat International Airport in nearby Ho Chi Minh City instead of building a new one in Dong Nai. VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City have launched a new bus route (No. 109) from 23/9 Park in District 1 to the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Tan Binh District. This is a luxury bus route to serve passengers from Tan Son Nhat Airport to the city’s center, with a total distance of 10.4 km, 110 trips/day, using 63-seat buses with air-conditioners. The buses are available from 5.45am to 1.30am of the next day to serve passengers of the last flights. All six new yellow buses used on this route were imported from Korea. The fares for passengers traveling less than 5km is VND12,000 and VND20,000 for the distance of over 5km. The current bus route from Trung Son residential area in District 8 to Tan Son Nhat Airport does not attract passengers, particularly tourists.
