(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese weightlifters have established six new SEA Games records and claimed three gold, four silver and four bronze medals at the region's biggest sport event. On the last day of competition on May 22, Vietnam earned two silvers in the men’s 89kg and over 89kg categories and a bronze in the women’s over 71kg. Pham Thi Hong Thanh set three new records in snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift in the women's 64kg event held a day earlier. Thanh lifted a total of 230kg – 104kg in snatch, and 126kg in clean and jerk, 6kg and 2kg higher than the old records, respectively. Her total lifting was far higher than the previous SEA Games record of 214 kg. SEA Games 31 concludes: Vietnam helps raise regional sports level
Vietnam impresses regional sports delegations and visitors who felt nothing but warmth, friendship, and hospitality. Vietnam has helped raise the level of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) by including Olympic and Asian Games (ASIAD) sports in the competition program. Ramon Fernandez, Head of the Philippines sports delegation, gave the idea when sharing some impressions on the organization, and the qualification of international referees in SEA Games 31 that was held in Hanoi and 11 nearby localities. He said the host country has been very open and tried to create a fair game, contributing to raising the level of SEA Games. SEA Games 31 closing ceremony to be cozy, friendly: Director
While the opening ceremony featured mass performances and spectacular visual effects, the closing will be a more cozy and friendly kind of event, with a motto “Coming together to shine,” she said. Athletes have gone through many competitions and made their talents known, so the closing ceremony will be a moment for everybody to honor and praise them, and promote sportsmanship, she explained. Ly further noted that a total of up to 580 sq.m. of indoor LED display screens will be installed for the event and there are a main center stage, covering some 611 sqm, and two 315-sqm side stages to create the best sound and light effects.
