Tourists on Quy Nhon beach (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Swiss Sustainable Tourism Programme (SSTP), the first of its kind funded by Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) for Vietnam, has officially kicked off, according to the programme’s management board. Specifically, the programme, which aims to raise the competitiveness and sustainability of Vietnamese tourism, will be implemented from late 2018 to May 2022, targeting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and training establishments through technical assistance. It will popularise sustainable tourism models to SMEs, small hotels, homestay services suppliers, so that they can expand the presence of sustainable tourism models and products to newly-emerging destinations and those which are less attractive to tourists. JICA implements sustainable development projects in Quảng Nam
Viet Nam News HCM CITY — The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has successfully implemented a number of sustainable development projects, particularly in environment and tourism, in Hội An in the central province of Quảng Nam, JICA announced yesterday on the occasion of Japanese Days in the province, which is taking place from August 16-19. Konaka Tetsuo, chief representative of JICA in Việt Nam, said in recent years JICA had worked with the province to develop small-scale projects implemented by Japanese NGOs, local governments and universities. These included the Water Environment Improvement project for the Japanese Bridge area in Hội An, a popular tourism mecca. The project improved the sewerage system through the rehabilitation of the bridge canal and built a wastewater treatment plant with capacity of 2,000 cubic metres per day. Binh Thuan ensures safety for tourism activities

Vice Chief of the Office of the People’s Committee Vo Thanh Huy said on June 12 that communication work has also been stepped up so that tourists will not be incited to participate in activities affecting security, and social order and safety. The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has sent a document to the tourist association and notices to tourist accommodations and sites, asking them to reinforce security to absolutely protect property and life of holiday-makers on major tours in the locality. The lack of planning, strategy and training is holding the idea back, said Nguyen Quy Phuong, an official from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), during a recent seminar on sustainable eco-tourism and agriculture and rural development. Phuong said agri-tourism would help local farmers preserve their traditions and culture, while improving the income and living standards.
