Police in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam are investigating a case of suspected child abuse after a video clip spread on social media showed a half-naked man beating a teen girl with nothing on. In the four-minute clip, the unclothed girl was hung against the ceiling of a house with a string that tied her hands while the man was beating her with a rod. The video has triggered deep indignation among the online community after it was posted on Friday morning. The incident took place at a house in Cuong Gian Commune, located in the province’s Nghi Xuan District, as far as Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper had learned. Police probing suspected alcohol poisoning that killed two in Ho Chi Minh City
Police in Ho Chi Minh City have launched an investigation into a suspected case of methanol poisoning that occurred at a local restaurant, affecting eight young people, of whom two died, officers said on Saturday. Among the eight victims, six are employees of Mr Bao Restaurant in Thu Duc City, including a woman, while the other two are outsiders, both female, local police said. These victims, aged 19 to 24, opened a party at the restaurant late on Wednesday evening, after the facility closed, N.D.B., the owner, reported on Saturday. They ate food bought from outside and drank a can of five liters of alcohol available at the restaurant during the feast which ended at 4:00 am the next morning. Suspected methanol poisoning sees 2 students die, six hospitalized
The group of eight college students met for a drink in Thu Duc on Thursday night, with one later found dead at his residence. Seven others later showed signs of abdominal pain, dizziness and vomiting, and despite taking medication, grew sicker. Those experiencing convulsions, lethargy, and coma were transferred to hospital. One of the seven hospitalized students was confirmed dead soon after arrival. Doctor Tran Thanh Du of Gia Dinh Hospital where four students are being treated said they had signs of methanol poisoning and are in critical condition. The two others are now being treated at Thu Duc Regional General Hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the case. The People’s Court in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap on Wednesday sentenced seven people to death for illegally transporting over 45 kilograms of narcotics in 2020. The death penalty was handed down to Le Duy Linh, Tran Van Thuc, Nguyen Minh Thiet, Huynh Van Ly, Le Van Thanh, Nguyen Van Thai, and Nguyen Trung Hieu. All were convicted of the illegal transportation of narcotics, though Linh was also found guilty of trading, possession of narcotics, and organization of illegal drug use. An eighth and ninth individual also present at the trial received a life sentence and 20-year sentence, respectively, for drug-related offenses. TAIPEI -- China fired multiple missiles around Taiwan on Thursday as it launched unprecedented military drills a day after a visit by U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the island that Beijing regards as its sovereign territory. Soon after the scheduled start at 0400 GMT, China's state broadcaster CCTV said the drills had begun and would end at 0400 GMT on Sunday.
