(Photo: qdnd.vn) Hanoi (VNA) – Commander of the Vietnamese navy Vice Admiral Pham Hoai Nam held talks with Chief of Staff of the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (MSDF) Admiral Yamamura Hiroshi in Hanoi on December 10. Vice Admiral Nam told his guest that the traditional relations between Vietnam and Japan provide a firm foundation for the two navies to develop their friendship. Admiral Yamamura said this is his first trip to Vietnam after he took the position of Chief of Staff of the Japanese MSDF in April this year. Endangered gaurs losing habitat in national park

(Photo: thanhnien.vn) The grasslands used to cover 15,000ha in Chu Mom Ray National Park in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, but they have shrunk to just 5ha. Dao Xuan Thuy, Vice Director of the national park, said that Ya Book valley used to be home to many animals including tigers, elephants, gaurs, leopards, deer, cobras, reptiles and amphibians. “The valley used to be known as the land of the gaur - the largest extant bovine and an endangered species in Vietnam - as herds of them used to roam the valley,” Thuy said. Vietnam, Japan expand naval cooperation
After the welcoming ceremony hosted by Vice Admiral Pham Hoai Nam, Chief of the Vietnam People’s Navy, the two sides had talks. At the talks, Vice Admiral Nam underlined that the sound traditional relations between Vietnam and Japan has paved the way for the two naval forces to strongly beef up their friendship as today. Both sides took this occasion to exchange a number of cooperation contents which had previously been signed.
