With 180 advancers and 113 decliners, the benchmark VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange rose by 11.44 points, or 1.24%, over the previous session to 937.54 points. Active cash flow stoked trade on the southern bourse as trading volume and value expanded 51% and 43.6% day-on-day at 188 million shares and VND4.2 trillion. The main index fell a slight 1.13 points, or 0.11%, at 1,009.61, given gainers outnumbering losers by 177 to 128. Trading kept improving with volume and value gaining 12.7% and 4.3% at 261.5 million shares and nearly VND5.2 trillion. The HNX-Index of the Hanoi Stock Exchange bounced back after two consecutive days of losses, inching up 0.05% versus the previous session at 115.58 points. Bank stocks lift VN-Index upBy Phuong Thao HCMC – Profit taking pressure kept rising on the local stock market today, August 16, but bank stocks were strong enough to send the VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange back into positive territory. With 133 gainers and 128 losers, the main index increased a slight 2.91 points, or 0.3%, at 964.28. Turnover on the southern market slid 7.9% in volume and 2% in value to 174 million shares worth VND4.3 trillion. Having dropped steeply in the morning, many large stocks in the banking and petroleum sectors made a sharp turnaround. In which, lender CTG gained 3.8% at VND26,150 per share and led the market by liquidity with 11.2 million shares traded. Property firm HAG stole the limelight as it hit the ceiling price for the second straight session, closing at VND7,080 a share on matching volume of over 20.3 million shares. Its agricultural subsidiary HNG failed to close at the upper daily limit but still climbed 6.4% at VND16,500 per share with 3.3 million shares traded. Other small stocks performed well, especially those in the real estate sector.
