Covid-19 caseload rises to over 10.75 million in Vietnam

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Tuesday reported an additional 989 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's total tally to over 10.75 million. a Illustrative photo According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 43 out of 63 localities in the country. As of Tuesday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to over 10.75 million. On July 5, an additional 9,759 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.72 million. On Tuesday evening, one death related to Covid-19 was recorded, raising the total fatalities to 43,089, accounting for 0.4 per cent of total infections. Chairing an online meeting of National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control with the 63 localities nationwide, the leader underlined COVID-19 has still developed complicatedly in the world with the occurrence of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron sub-lineage BA.5 in many countries, and that it is crucial to control the pandemic to create favorable conditions for socio-economic development, national protection and the improvement of people’s living conditions. Health officials call on people to get COVID-19 booster doses

The event was held by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) and the Health Ministry to launch the rollout of the third and fourth vaccine doses for state employees and workers nationwide. Huong said as of July 4, more than 233 million COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered in Vietnam, raising the primary vaccination coverage among people aged 12 and above to approximately 100%.
