Hanoi (VNA) – A former deputy minister and 18 others have been summoned for their alleged connection with the State property misuse and mismanagement case of ex-Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang at the Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage JSC (Sabeco). Former Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Nam Hai, a Sabeco representative and 17 others will have to be present as people with related interests and obligations at the first-instance trial of the case on January 18. The trial was initially scheduled to start on January 7 but then postponed due to the absence of three defendants and many persons allegedly involving in the case. Binh Dinh: nearly 4,200 hectares of forests certificated by FSC
This is the first State-owned enterprise in Binh Dinh province to win the FSC certificate for plantation forest. Chairman of Quy Nhon Forestry Co., Ltd Tran Nguyen Tu said that the FSC forest certification will help raise the economic value of products from forest of the company. In the coming time, the company will invest in developing a processing plant to complete a complete chain of forestry development, including high quality saplings production, afforestation, sustainable forest management and wood processing. Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh said that the FSC certification is a great encouragement, recognizing efforts of the firm in sustainable and responsible forest management and development. Vietnam makes a big push into renewable energy
In particular, the Prime Minister has agreed to incorporate the 3,200MW Bac Lieu LNG power plant costing US$4 million to the seventh national power plan. Its investor, Delta Offshore Energy Company, is now finishing the procedures so that it can start construction soon. Supermarket coalition expected to help cut use of plastic bags
In order to minimise the use of such bags, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade held a working session with the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. According to the department, 140 out of 170 supermarkets and trade centres in Hanoi have switched from plastic shopping bags to bio-degradable bags and multi-use shopping bags.
