Tuesday's shipment of pasteurized fresh milk produced by Vietnamese dairy firm TH True Milk followed a deal signed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and China Customs in April this year. TH True Milk is the first Vietnamese dairy producer to have approval for exports to China. Vinamilk, Moc Chau Milk, Nutifood and Hanoimilk are awaiting similar approval, according to the agriculture ministry. China, with a population of more than 1.4 billion, has a huge demand for milk and milk products, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said at the ceremony launching Vietnam’s first milk shipment to China on Tuesday. China has the highest milk consumption in the world, with a total value of $60 billion, but domestic supply only meets 75 percent of demand. China Customs issued an official announcement on October 16 allowing the import of heat treated dairy products from Vietnam, including different types of pasteurized milk, milk powder, … [Read more...] about Vietnam exports milk to China for the very first time

Vietnam wants more northern border gates to process fruit exports to China
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will negotiate with Chinese authorities to allow goods to pass through hitherto unused border gates in the northern province of Lang Son, like Chi Ma, Na Hinh and Binh Nghi, in order to resolve congestion at the Tan Thanh border gate, said Tran Thanh Hai, deputy director of the ministry’s Import and Export Department. On Wednesday morning, in a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo and Yunnan Province’s Party Committee Deputy Secretary Wang Yobo, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue had mentioned the difficulties Vietnamese exporters have been facing at the border, and asked China to help resolve the issue. Xiong Bo said Chinese border authorities have been overwhelmed by the sudden surge in traffic, and have sent personnel to inspect and resolve the issue. For his part, Wang Yobo said that the southern Chinese province wants to raise bilateral trade turnover with Vietnam, and stands ready to purchase Vietnamese farm … [Read more...] about Vietnam wants more northern border gates to process fruit exports to China

Vietnam exports to US rise 28 pct as China-US trade war intensifies
The U.S. was Vietnam’s largest export market in the first five months with a value of $22.6 billion, up 28 percent year-on-year. China came second with $13.4 billion, down 2.6 percent, according to Vietnam's General Statistics Office. Vietnam was the U.S.’s 12th largest supplier last year, but if this pace of growth is sustained for a full year, it could leapfrog Italy, France, the U.K., and India in the ranks of top exporters to the U.S, Bloomberg said in a new report. The country has become a standout in a region where the world’s export engines are largely hurting amid trade-war tensions and a slowing electronics cycle, the report added. U.S. Census Bureau data shows Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan all saw export contractions in April, while in the same month Vietnam’s exports gained 7.5 percent from a year earlier. Experts have called Vietnam a "winner" of the trade war as it has received increasing investment as major … [Read more...] about Vietnam exports to US rise 28 pct as China-US trade war intensifies
Escalating trade war to hit Vietnam’s exports
"The trade war is going beyond analysts’ ability to predict and forecast. It poses big challenges to countries which trade with the U.S. and China, including Vietnam," Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Tran Quoc Khanh said at a recent meeting: Vietnam’s exports in the first six months rose 7.2 percent year-on-year, lower than the average growth of 11.6 percent in the last five years, according to customs data. RongViet Securities Corporation (VDSC) said in a newly-released note that export growth for the year could be 8 percent. It was 13.2 percent last year. The risk is even higher as China depreciates its currency to respond to the U.S.’s recent announcement of a tariff hike on $300 billion of its goods. The yuan slid to 7.0039 per dollar on Thursday as a result, the lowest level since April 2008. Economist Nguyen Tri Hieu said a depreciating yuan would pose a challenge to Vietnamese goods trying to enter China as cheaper Chinese goods will pour into … [Read more...] about Escalating trade war to hit Vietnam’s exports
