Local celebrity: A bowl of hot hủ tiếu that has brought fame to Sa Đéc. Viet Nam News by Duy An The city of Sa Đéc in Đồng Tháp Province is not only well known for its bewitching ornamental plants and bonsais, but also for its specialty dish hủ tiếu: noodles with pig’s bones, fresh shrimps and many other accompanying flourishes. I had known for a long time that Sa Đéc is famous for the dish, but I hadn’t tried it until I was recently invited by my friend named Nguyên Ngọc to visit her home in Sa Đéc. Right after my arrival, Ngọc invited me to eat hủ tiếu at Sẩm’s shop on Trần Hưng Đạo Street. The shop is although small, but was already crowded with diners from everywhere in the country. I also saw a group of foreign travellers were enjoying the dish. Tasty pig: Char siu roast pork is one of the main ingredients of … [Read more...] about Time-tested hủ tiếu recipe brings fame to Sa Đéc

Rampant Arsenal face Lisbon test, Chelsea sweat on Hazard
Mesut Ozil is thriving as Arsenal captain. (Photo: AFP/Glyn Kirk) After sealing an impressive 10th straight victory at home to Leicester in the Premier League on Monday, Unai Emery's outfit are the team to watch in Group E. Arsenal and Sporting sit on six points apiece after two games, with Azerbaijan's Qarabag and fellow strugglers Vorskla of Ukraine still pointless. Sporting are fifth in Portugal's top flight, four points off the top with former Manchester United star Nani having scored three goals from seven league outings. If Arsenal needed more reason to believe in their chances of going all the way, they need not look far. As coach of Sevilla in 2013-2016, Emery led the Spaniards to three consecutive Europa League titles. "We are beginning to play with heart," Emery said after Monday's come-from-behind 3-1 win, in which Mesut Ozil scored and provided an assist in a man-of-the-match performance. "I think we played some sexy football," said the 30-year-old German. Sporting, who … [Read more...] about Rampant Arsenal face Lisbon test, Chelsea sweat on Hazard

The Golden Mask of King Tutankhamun sits on display at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo on November 28, 2017. — AFP PhotoViet Nam News CAIRO — Egypt’s antiquities ministry said on Sunday that tests had debunked a theory that there are hidden chambers next to the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings. Experts used ground penetrating radar (GPR) which provided "conclusive evidence of the non-existence of hidden chambers adjacent to or inside Tutankhamun’s tomb," the ministry said in a statement. More details will be announced in a speech later in the day by the head of an Italian scientific team, Francesco Porcelli, of the Polytechnic University in Turin, the statement said. It said Porcelli had submitted a report that "concluded, with a very high degree of confidence... the hypothesis concerning the existence of hidden chambers or corridors adjacent to Tutankhamun’s tomb is not supported by GPR data." Previous scans had suggested the possibility … [Read more...] about Tests show no hidden Tutankhamun chambers: ministry
