A new shopping center will be opened on Nguyen Thi Thap Street in District 7, HCMC tomorrow. The two-floor facility will be a standalone building covering 1,300 square meters. Nguyen Kim’s District 7 shopping center will have to compete with other electronics stores long established around the area like Dien May Xanh, Cho Lon and Thien Hoa. In mid-August, Nguyen Kim will open three more centers in HCMC and one in Trang Bom District in Dong Nai Province. The authority has worked with the departments of transport, planning and investment, and finance over a funding plan proposed by a Japanese firm for the underground shopping center, but this plan has been found to be unsuitable in financial and efficiency terms. Lotte Mart opens biggest shopping center in Vietnam today By Quoc Hung - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - Lotte Mart, a member of South Korea's leading department store operator Lotte Shopping, today inaugurates what is described as the biggest shopping center in Vietnam, making a major thrust into the fast growing local retail market. The shopping center covers 33,400 square meters in the Saigon South area in HCMC's District 7, Lotte Vietnam Shopping Co. told a press conference in the city on Wednesday. The three-floor Lotte Mart South Saigon is a US$75-million venture between Lotte Shopping and Vietnam's Minh Van Company. However, the world of the small local traders is increasingly coming under threat, not just in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, but Da Nang in the central region as well. Tuoi Tre News recently reported on the plan by Da Nang City to turn the Han and Con markets into modern, deluxe shopping centers.
