Vietnamese man missing after typhoon Hagibis sinks ship near Tokyo

The Vietnamese embassy in Japan has confirmed that two Vietnamese crew were on a Panama-registered cargo ship that sank in waters near Tokyo Saturday night. Nguyen Van Tri, 41, is still missing and search operations are on. Pham Van Duc, 33, was safely rescued and his health has improved. The 1,925-ton cargo ship, JIA DE, was anchored in the Tokyo Bay when contact was lost at about 9:40 p.m. on October 12. There were 12 crew members on the ship. On Sunday evening, the Japan Coast Guard confirmed five of them drowned, three were missing, and four people were rescued. More information about the impact of the typhoon on the Vietnamese community in Japan was not immediately available. Thailand promotes trade to support exports

Thailand’s exports in January-October 2019 reduced 2.4 percent year-on-year to 207.32 billion USD, while imports declined 4.1 percent to 199 billion USD. (Illustrative image. Source: thainews.prd) Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce plans to cooperate with the private sector to promote trade in 16 countries to boost export growth in 2020, according to a local official. After talks with commerce officials on December 9, Thai Deputy Prime Minister cum Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit revealed that trade destinations targeted for 2020 include India, Japan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, France, the UK, the Middle East, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Cambodia and Timor Leste.
