A launch ceremony for Honda-branded electric motorcycles took place in Ho Chi Minh City for two days this week without the knowledge of the Vietnamese unit of the Japanese automobile and motorcycle manufacturer, Honda Vietnam Company. The event, featuring the opportunity to test-drive what organizers claimed to be “genuine Honda electric motorcycles,” was held at the Culture Center on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street in District 3 on December 18 and 19. The introduction of these electric motorcycles caught the public’s attention and received shares on Facebook by people excited that the prominent Japanese automobile and motorcycle manufacturer, Honda Motor Company, was behind the show. Full-time legislators look into draft law on implementing democracy at grassroots levels
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the N.A.’s Committee for Legal Affairs Hoang Thanh Tung said following feedback, the draft law now has 7 chapters and 79 articles, up 5 articles from the version submitted at the N.A.’s third meeting. It also upholds the role of every citizen in overseeing activities of officials and cadres to uncover and fight corruption and negative behaviors, optimize democracy, and increase public responsiveness in the implementation of democracy at grassroots levels, he said. Regulations on the establishment of people’s inspection committees at all grassroots levels were also mentioned in the draft law to ensure fairness in the non-State sector. Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra said units will consider opinions before adding regulations over businesses and organizations that lack trade unions but have youngsters or women’s unions to ensure their democratic rights. Disabled Vietnamese man travels across country on three-wheeled motorbike
Phan Vu Minh lost his legs at the age of 20 due to a rare medical condition, but has refused to let his disability slow him down. He now spends his time exploring Vietnam on a specially designed motorbike. Minh was diagnosed with spinal blood vessel deformities when he was 12. Despite spending eight years preparing himself for an uncertain future, the news opened the door to depression. According to the doctor in charge of his case, Minh was the second person in the whole country to have been diagnosed with such a rare medical condition. Getting up Minh has refused to let his condition and the resulting amputation confine him to a wheelchair. A long-time Ho Chi Minh City resident, Minh felt he needed a reprieve from the world and decided to relocate to Vinh Long City in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region.
