Authorities in Lai Chau and Son La Provinces, northern Vietnam are seeking the prime minister's approval for the construction of airports there. In a document sent to PM Pham Minh Chinh, the Lai Chau People’s Committee mentioned its plan to build Lai Chau Airport, which is designed to cover 167 hectares and have the capacity of 500,000 passengers per year, in Tan Uyen Town during the 2022-30 period. The administration stressed that the project plays an important role in promoting the province's socio-economic development as well as contributes to ensuring national defense and security in border areas. The province has carried out necessary land use planning and site clearance to attract the interest of investors in the project. The market is now worth US$1.5 billion, up from US$1.1 billion in 2017, Hua Phu Doan, deputy chairman of the association, said. Domestic medical devices manufacturers make mostly basic stuff and meet only 10 per cent of demand while the remaining 90 per cent is imported, he told a meeting held recently in HCM City. First Vietnamese victim in Manchester fire identified through fingerprint

(Photo: VNA) London (VNA) - Partial human remains recovered from Bismark House Mill in the UK have been identified, through fingerprint analysis, as Nguyen Van Uoc, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK, citing an announcement on August 12 by Greater Manchester Police (GMP). Uoc was one of four Vietnamese nationals who were reported missing to the police earlier and may have been inside the mill during a fire on May 7, 2022. The three others are Chu Van Cuong, Nguyen Van Duong, and Le Thanh Nam. Police are waiting for more DNA test results to identify further victims. The 31-year-old maintained regular contact with his wife until the date of the fire, at which time he said he was in a mill. Teams have been searching the remnants of the mill since demolition workers discovered human remains on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Indonesia plans to tighten rules to curb underage smoking
Under a planned new regulation, the Health Ministry of Indonesia is looking to control the promotion and packaging of e-cigarettes, which have remained unregulated since their legalisation in 2018. The ministry is also seeking to increase the size of graphic health warnings on tobacco packaging from 40% to 90%, ban the advertising, sponsorship and promotion of tobacco products, and prohibit the sale of single cigarettes. The number of underage smokers continues to increase each year, especially since the legalisation of e-cigarettes, Imran Agus Nurali, the ministry’s director of health promotion and community empowerment, told a webinar on August 11. He stressed the need for stronger measures to reduce tobacco consumption to protect future generations from the impact of smoking. Vietnam to have national marine spatial plan by 2030
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Minh Ngan underpinned the importance of the national marine spatial master plan, saying its objectives are to properly delineate and zone off sea spaces for different sectors based on the incorporation of planning of sea-based industries; and to orient the use of sea spaces and address overlaps and conflicts in exploiting marine spaces. Drafting the master plan is a challenging and complex task, given that it has never been done before in Vietnam, Ngan noted, adding that utilizing existing data and information, it will zone off the marine spaces based on natural ecosystems to provide a connecting space for socio-economic development, enhance land-to-sea connectivity and protect national security-defence and international cooperation. Danang wastewater treatment to help prevent beach pollution
Several wastewater treatment projects are going to be put into operation in the central city of Danang, which are expected to help prevent pollution at local beaches. Wastewater flows into My Khe beach in Danang City Director of the Management Board of Da Nang Traffic Construction Investment Projects, Nguyen Minh Huy, shared on August 14 that a project would be completed and put into operation in Son Tra District by the end of this year when wastewater would be treated before flowing into the sea. "Large pipes were arranged to collect wastewater in the area and the Son Tra Wastewater Treatment Plant was upgraded to deal with 65,000 cubic metres of wastewater a day," Huy said.
