Vietnam pilots passion fruit exports to China

Product quarantine Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (MARD) Plant Protection Department said China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) had approved imports of Vietnamese passion fruit through seven border crossings in China’s Guangxi Province, including Huu Nghi Quan, Po Chai, Pingxiang Railway Station, Pingxiang, Dongxing, Long Bang, and Shuikou. A series of activities have been planned to promote the speedy export of passion fruit to China The two sides will assess the results of the pilot project and decide whether to sign an official protocol on plant quarantine for Vietnamese passion fruit imported into China, contributing to the development of trade between the two countries. About 6,000 hectares of passion fruit are being grown in Vietnam’s 46 cities and provinces, providing an annual output of more than 111,000 tonnes, with an average yield of 22.67 tonnes per hectare. Fruit farmers encouraged to apply GAP standards

The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap is encouraging farmers to grow more fruits meeting good agricultural practice standards to improve incomes and sustainability. Mango and longan account for the lion’s share of these fruits. The mangoes are exported to many markets, including the Republic of Korea, Japan, Russia, Italy, and Hong Kong. The province, the delta’s largest mango producer, has more than 9,000ha under the fruit, while mango is one of its key agricultural products. Cashew industry urged to focus on markets with FTAs

Cashew exports saw two-digit drops in the first seven months of this year. — Photo baochinhphu.vn The cashew industry should focus on markets in which Viet Nam had signed trade deals to take advantage of preferential tariffs and expand exports as inflation had pushed up the prices of raw materials and forced people to tighten spending, according to the Viet Nam Cashew Association. Cashew exports saw two-digit drops in the first seven months. Statistics of the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade showed that cashew exports were estimated at 294,000 tonnes, worth US$1.76 billion in January-July, dropping by 10.5 per cent in volume and 12.1 per cent in value against the same period last year. While the average export price increased by 1.45 per cent against the same period last year to $5,792 per tonne, the price of raw cashews rose by 15-20 per cent. Vietnam, Laos enjoy 24.2% rise in two-way trade in 7 months

The office said that the major products Vietnam shipped to Laos included petrol, vegetables, fertilizers, clinker and cement, electric wires and cables, paper and paper products, ceramics, and garment products. Meanwhile, Vietnam mostly imported from Laos fertilizers, rubber, wood and furniture, ore and other minerals. In July alone, two-way trade hit USD 125 million, a surge of 54.1% year on year, including Vietnam’s export revenue of nearly USD 53.2 million, up 33.9%. This was the third consecutive month that Vietnam enjoyed an increase in exports to Laos, helping reduce the fall in the turnover to minus 1.6% from minus 6% in the first half of this year. Indian cultural festival underway in HCM City, Nha Trang

The event aims to boost cultural exchange and step up cooperation in trade, investment, education, information technology, tourism and healthcare between the two countries. Addressing the August 13 opening ceremony in HCM City, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Pranay Verma said the cultural festival was first scheduled for the beginning of this year on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties (January 1, 1972 - 2022) but had to postpone due to COVID-19. India wants to promote three key elements during this festival: Trade, Connectivity and Culture, the diplomat said. Tra Vinh nurtures private sector to kickstart economy

In the first half of this year, Tra Vinh province has issued registration certificates to 250 businesses. Among which, there are 165 one-member limited liability companies; 45 multi-member limited liability companies; 20 private enterprises; 20 joint stock companies; and 151 affiliated units. The overall amount of registered capital hit around $169 million, and the total number of registered personnel reached nearly 3,800 individuals. There are just under 3,000 active businesses with a total capitalisation of $2.1 billion and nearly 90,800 workers. Some 44 of those businesses are foreign-invested firms. In addition, almost 500 firms and affiliated units were registered for expanded business lines, capital, and other adjustments, increasing the total extra capital to $143 million.
