China withdrawal could see 2023 Asian Cup heading west
China's withdrawal from hosting the 2023 Asian Cup could see the showpiece shift west to the Gulf, where new infrastructure and voracious demand for major events has made the region a magnet for international tournaments. Having planned to hold the Asian Cup across 10 cities in June-July next year, China dropped the 24-team tournament due to "exceptional circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic", the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said over the weekend. In the mixed freestyle team poomsae event, the Vietnamese team, comprising three women and five men, scored 7.799 points to bag the gold medal. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese athletes surpassed those from the Philippines with 7.782 points in the men’s team poomsae event to win the second gold medal. In the women’s team poomsae event, the Vietnamese team triumphed with a score of 8.016 points, higher than the runner-up of Thailand with 7.882 points. SEA Games 31: Vietnam’s shooting team earns first medal
With the achievement of a silver medal, shooter Phi Thanh Thao was awarded a hot bonus of VND5 million (US$218) from the leader of Vietnam Sports Delegation.
